Jena's profile...

"I have just completed a HND in Fine Art at Blackpool and the Fylde College, where I gained Distinctions in most units.

I have come late to a serious study of art, as I have been a teacher of English during my working life, but had always regretted not pursuing art when I was 18.

Having taken early retirement I did a two year Access to Higher Education course at Preston College, followed by the HND, which I thoroughly enjoyed and where I learnt a lot about techniques. I would now like to continue painting and exhibit and sell my work.

I am inspired by natural and organic objects, such as seaweed, trees, flowers, lichen, which I treat in an abstract way, creating strong, curving rhythms and movement. Through the layering and building up of textures I seek to convey a sense of time and change, of growth and decay. I enjoy doing large charcoal drawings, and paintings in acrylic, mixed media and oils.

I have exhibited at the Blott Gallery in Blackpool, the Zoo Gallery in Blackpool (the graduate exhibition), and currently have work on display at the Barton Bangla Brasserie on the A6 at Barton, Preston, but I am eager to exhibit more widely!"
