BBC BusYou are in: Lancashire > BBC Face 2 Face > BBC Bus > Big bus blog - Harris Museum, Preston Big bus blog - Harris Museum, PrestonThe BBC Bus is bursting at the seams during a busy week in Preston city centre! ------ FRIDAY 16 MARCH What would James T Kirk be without his enterprise, Dr Who without his TARDIS and Noah without his ark? These questions dear reader pertain to the fact the bus is still off the road! After much sucking of teeth, shaking of heads and tut tutting the mechanics still refuse to give us an approximate time of completion to the nearest decade. We decided to talk about Darwen Street today – this is where BBC Radio Lancashire is based but what else is on Daren Street? Well there are 19 food outlets so we decided to ignore them as most people think of food when they think Darwen street. When you’re a lady and you reach the grand old age of Sal you need at times to take the odd powder. Dr DOS brought Sal a herbal concoction AND precious reader it appears to be working!! Have a good weekend! The BBC Bus team------ THURSDAY 15 MARCH ![]() (l-r) Folly folk, Sal chats to a local artist ------ Rained a bit today, this is good, it slowed the accumulates down a tad and permitted us to have a tidy and get one or two things done. Two or three shower dodgers again, we had to ask one to leave as our eyes started to bleed. Folly are working with us today, they are a media arts organisation and with three computers showed off Net Art, you just have to check out their site, www.folly.co.uk One particular prog you will have to play with is dreamlines – it really is a fantastic it will blow your mind! Back again tomorrow – with nose pegs... The BBC Bus team------ WEDNESDAY 14 MARCH ![]() (l-r) A local councillor drians us of knowledge, Lorna and friend. ------ Is there a doctor in the house? We have a poorly bus today; it would appear the fuel pump has gone ballistic and it wouldn’t start. A greasy oily chap had to crawl underneath the bus and fiddled with its bits and pieces. Eventually she kicked into life and we powered off to Preston. Same as yesterday again today – very very busy. Preston city council is in the process of starting up a bus of their own, they know we have experience in this matter so after the program finished they drained us of all knowledge. One of the downsides of working a city centre is the amount of people we meet with individual issues. There is a collection of people that need to make acquaintance with their showers again (i.e. they pong a bit!) this is a restricted area and when they get off other people think it’s us when they get on. Bedtime 9pm again for the team... The BBC Bus team------ TUESDAY 13 MARCH ![]() (l-r) Chris is a bit busy while Sal chats to some visitors ------ Tuesday and here we go again. From the second we opened the doors at 9.45 until we shut them at 4pm the bus has been full. Record number of people have been out to see us again which is brill, having five minutes between the hordes would be nice though! The hard wiring makes all the difference, Skype and its fairies behaved allowing for a full hours transmission. Well nearly! First thing to go – the battery on Sal's receiver, Chris gives Sally his battery. Whist Chris replaces his battery, the one on the radio mic dies... mmmm thanks for that! Think what you will of hoodies but a group came to the bus today to put us straight. They pointed out a few things and seemed to make sense to a degree. They might feel misunderstood but we think they should take some responsibility for that. One lad on the bus had every inch of his body hidden and his hood was huge. He looked like the grim reaper's scarier brother and if met on a dark night would frighten the life out of you. Dress as you please lads but don’t be too shocked at the public’s reaction. Love to type up some more but I’m too tired so there. The BBC Bus team------ MONDAY 12 MARCH ![]() (l-r) A quaint little jewl shop in Preston, and two lovely ladies ------ Preston city centre Monday morning – what a load of bollards! That is to say we can’t get the bus on to the flag market because there are bollards in the way. Richard from the council turned up with a key and we moved onsite. From that moment we were assaulted – not assaulted in a bad way but the after effects we are sure would be the same. The day was exhausting, we had over a hundred people on the bus and to say we all slept well that night was an understatement. We started broadcasting via Skype using VOIP it worked fine on the inserts during the day, 2pm comes along and the Skype fairies decide to come out and play... again! Devious little critters always wait until we go live at 2pm before making an appearance I often wonder what one would look like flat under the wheel of a bus! Suffice to say Skype went down; we quickly changed systems and managed to stay on air. Quick call to Alan – the senior IT chap at LCC and we are hard wired into the Harris back in the game. The Harris to all those who don’t know Preston is a fantastic museum, its architecture reflects its contents, its one of the diamonds in Preston’s crown. Red Nose Day is just around the corner and they reckon it's going to be the biggest. Alison Derek and her garage are trying to break a record; they intend lining up as many minis as they possibly can – good luck Ali its all for a great cause.
