BBC BusYou are in: Lancashire > BBC Face 2 Face > BBC Bus > Big bus blog - Blackburn Big bus blog - BlackburnThe BBC Bus is parked up in lovely Blackburn this week and doing a tour of community centres... ------ FRIDAY 16 FEBRUARY ![]() (l-r) Chris and Phil and Small Amp. ------ Not only was it the last day of our week's tour of Blackburn Community Centres, but it was also time to say farewell to Phil Trow after his brief fling with the BBC Bus. Top marks go to the lad for his efforts filling Sally’s shoes - we definitely think he should have stuck to flats though instead of stepping out in her stilettos and the lipstick most certainly wasn’t his colour. But what impressed the team most was his attention to detail – by that we mean the fact that he brought in cakes to share on his final day aboard. Well you can’t be creative on an empty stomach, can you?! Let’s just hope someone tells Sally she’ll have to perfect her baking skills if she wants to get on! Anyway, Bangor Street Youth and Community Centre proved to be second time lucky for us after spending Monday this week with the crew there. However, we think it probably only spelled ‘Double Trouble’ for them. Nevertheless, they put on a brave face and even introduced us to our 3rd MBE of the week, Faz Patel, who incidentally you can see on this website talking about Islam and the importance of the Mosque in the Bastwell area of Blackburn, in a short film by Sue. Local band ‘Small Amp’ provided some weekend spirit with one of their acoustic tunes, which turned out to be a pleasant surprise considering we thought it was just going to be a load of young noise. And to top the day off we all got another good work out with the Bus being parked on a 30 degree angle at the top of that hill. Not that good though after it starts to make you feel dizzy and that woozy sensation is combined with the smell of the tuna fish sandwiches Chris insists on chomping every day. Let’s just hope it’s flat in Heysham. The BBC Bus Team.------ THURSDAY 15 FEBRUARY ![]() (l-r) Chris at deaths door, Phil gets all arty and Sue working on a video ------ Cough splutter sneeze. That’s all we have heard on the bus today as Chris had another one of his man colds today. Darwen is the venue for the bus today and as I type I am eating Manchester tart – the best pudding ever invented – fact! The people of Darwen seem to very arty, we opened the program with Darwen Art Society and then moved on to the Camera Club. The funniest part of the prog has to be Phil calling bingo to the locals here at Suddleside Community Centre. They demand and expect quality callers – they got Phil! If you missed the broadcast you missed some class radio. Thanks to the team here for feeding and watering us all day. The BBC Bus team------ WEDNESDAY 14 FEBRUARY ![]() (l-r) Hillary discusses house issues in Blackburn, Shagufta told us all about domestic violence within Asian families and Mahmood talks about Corporation Park. ------ We can go for weeks at a time without having a problem, then all of a sudden everything goes wrong all at once. We reckon its Phil the Johah Trow’s fault. Ever time he makes an appearance at the bus, things start to break! Yes oh reader of ours Phil is back and this time he means business! Well sort of, he’s a nice boy really. Can we ignore the technicals for a bit and concentrate on the stories we uncovered today? Shagufta discussed the problems with Asian domestic violence, some proper informative stuff that makes your blood go cold – do you know about Honour Killings? We had an idea but Shagufta drove it home. If you live in Blackburn you more than likely have either been to or visited Corporation Park. Well if you had made a recent visit you would see its magnificence, nearly £4m later and the trees have been cleared, the fountains fixed and the drives re-laid. It looks very very good. Thing is the conservatory is only open midweek, not at the weekend or bank holidays, why, when people work during the week can they not visit the flowers and plant house at the weekend? Another thing, why does the park not have a toilet? These questions were put to Councillor Mahmood , vandals are preventing the final push forward for this great park – Hey Vandal..STOP IT!!!! Thank you. House prices in Blackburn – WOW, at the moment they are unreal, the average price of a house now in Blackburn is £150k – that is a lot of lolly. Hillary from Hillary’s estate agents pointed out a few things and left us with knowledge and an understanding of the way the market is moving in Blackburn. Mid way through the week another good one, Thanks to the team here at Bank top com centre for all the brews and the seriously good chip butty. The BBC Bus team------ TUESDAY 13 FEBRUARY ![]() (l-r) A pole dancing Garry, Sue (not our Sue) shows off her noddy car (Chris ducks again!) and Tanya talks the centre up. Tanya has an MBE you know! ------ The bus operates between the hours of 10am and 3 pm – well it does under normal circumstances, today our beloved bus had a leak, there was a little pool underneath her this morning. We appreciate that she’s getting on a bit but she hasn’t yet reached that stage. What happened was, her fuel tank seeped (isn’t seep a good word, its not used enough). This meant the bus was 90 minutes late onsite, Sue and Garry where already there – makes a change! Great day on the bus, speaking of transport check out the picture above of Sue’s car – its locally known as Easy Jet, hehe. You go all year and never meet an MBE to turn up at Mill Hill and meet two of them! We reckon there’re just plain greedy! Sadly this is Sue’s last day at presenting on the bus for a while – tomorrow it will be Phil Trow (it’s about time we had a proper presenter!!, Chris ducks. Tom came to see us, Chris and Garry had a right old prattle, we won’t tell you what we discussed but it was funny! Mill Hill you’ve been brill – thanks for all the brews news and use of the loos. The BBC Bus team------ MONDAY 12 FEBRUARY ![]() (l-r) After finishing the program Sue and Chris need a sit down, Michelle and Olwen have been banging the drum all day…well done! Firasat told us about parenting in Blackburn with Darwen. ------ Bangor Street Community CentreSometimes we do a program and it’s all live – Sally being the queen of live likes it that way. Other times we shove in the odd pre record, today the only live bit was the introduction at 1405 until 1415, so Sue got to put her feet up for the last 45 minutes while Chris and Al did all the hard work. The people we chatted to had to be elsewhere between 2 and 3 so we got then in the can and played them into the program. Today has been one of the days on the BBC bus for quite a while, this prominently Asian area have responded to our rally cry with gusto, the bus has been full all day. Have you heard of Thalassaemia, nope? Neither had we, Thalassaemia is a disease of the blood that is specific to Asia, if two people have it and have a child that child will have to spend a massive amount of time in hospital having blood transfusions and other terrible things. Strange thing is it only affects the child of two people who have it! We spoke to a rep from Lancashire Council of Mosques about parenting, he was very good and served his cause well, Thing is, just before we recorded him we had a natter about the ins and outs of Asian life. We were interested in who appoints Imans, is there any local rivalry between mosques, hoe are they funded? He’s coming back on Friday to let us know. Chris and Sue have decided to wear high heel shoes on Friday when they come back. Why you might ask, well the idea is to cut one of the heels off – this will aid in movement, the bus is on one heck of an angle, its like walking down the street one foot on the pavement and one foot in the road.
