Big bus blog - Voluntary Sector Resource Centre

The BBC Bus rolls up at East Lancs Voluntary Sector Resource Centre in Burnley...

------

FRIDAY 9 FEBRUARY

The final day at ELVS

(l-r)  Mick is the new PCSO, he reminded us about defrosting cars in the morning - they do get stolen if left alone, Chris gets a cuddle from the girls and Lee tells us his story, he was involved in a RTA.

------

9th of February already - seems only last week we were singing Christmas Carols at Billsborough.

We have decided that time is moving too fast so we are thinking of starting a new campaign. This crusade will be called "STDAB" - SLOW TIME DOWN A BIT. It’s Friday again! We think STDAB will be massive, I mean who would vote against it? Well if you were at the dentists you’d probably bin it but apart from that.

Thanks to the team here for letting us leave the bus – it’s been great just turning up and switching the bus on rather than having to rig and present it each day. The people here really did make our life easy – they all wanted to talk on the radio, thus making production a doddle.

The good people of Burnley have presented themselves very well; it’s been a pleasure working with them.

Shed load of visitors again today feeding some superb radio, perfect end to a very good week here in East Lancashire.

Next week the bus will be touring Blackburn – we thought since we hadn’t been to BB for such a long time we would spread out and offer our services to more than just one venue. Check out overleaf for the times and places.

Thanks again to all the staff here at ELVS.

The BBC Bus team.

------

THURSDAY 8 FEBRUARY

Day 4 at ELVS

(l-r)  Nahid from Brierfield cybercafé, Vicky and Hannah from MP kitty Ushers office talking about turning Burnley into a fair trade town and Peter decides he wants Carol’s job at ELVS.

------

Thought it was going to snow?? Just a peppering then it went. Pathetic! No snow men being built, no snow ball fights - boring!

What’s the last thing you think of when you think of Brierfield? Well it may not be the last thing - but we reckon you didn’t think of cybercafés?  Nahid Ashraf came to the bus to give us the details; this is an operation that offers free Internet access to those who want it. The only other outfit that offers something similar is - us!

Noticed that Sal has posted in the blog, she’s off on leave next week, she’s going skiing so she will be on the piste again. Old one we know but we couldn’t resist.

Did you listen to Steven, the 16 year old lad who lives on his own? What did you reckon? Inspiring? Silly and immature? Let us know in the blog.

It would appear that violence does actually work, Sue has stopped saying “as I say” How many people does it take to change a light bulb on the BBC Bus? None is the answer as we have run out. Fear not darling listener, Sue is currently hightailing it back to the studio for some more.

Carbon footprints – This time last month you might have thought a carbon footprint referred to the Paul Simon song Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes. It doesn’t...it’s the amount of carbon used to get you through each day. On the bus we have saved 9020 kg today, that’s just today!

Anyway – it’s home time and we are praying for snow – well Chris is – Sue’s a girl and she gets scared!

The BBC Bus team

------

WEDNESDAY 7 FEBRUARY

Day 3

(l-r)  Neil - the artist whose pictures are displayed in the centre, the group from fame….ahh we mean Burnley youth theatre and Adrian from Basement and friend discuss a night club with no alcohol

------

Seems strange how we are knocking out low energy light bulbs because they can reduce global warming!! WARMING!! Its blumin freezing. Tomorrow's program should be a good one, we’ll meet Steven who at the age of 16 is living on his own, just imagine that, living on your own at such an early age.

Anyway that’s tomorrow, what about today? Well, Jack Frost has been out and about and decided to spend the day with us; he was accompanied by a whole host of people - including the Burnley Youth Theatre came down and told us about their latest venture and Adrian from the basement project described his role in offering a non alcohol night club for 13 to 19 year olds.

Neil and Sandra from Pendle artists paid us a visit after we spotted a few of his and his groups paintings on the walls of the centre.

Thanks to the centre for all the server reboots, they have been running up and down all day trying to keep us online. Oh the joys of outside broadcasting! Do you remember the days when you woke up in the morning and there was ice on the inside of the window? Well the same has happened these last two days on the bus, if you come to the bus over the next few days you might wonder were all the chairs have gone…we’ve burnt them! Hurry up if you want to come and see us as the keyboards are next, then the computers then the microphones then...

The BBC Bus team.

------

TUESDAY 6 FEBRUARY

Day 2 on the BBC Bus

(l-r) Tony the ‘hitman’ Paulaskas, Cath from Freeflow and girls grabbing bulbs!

------

Thinking words – have you heard of them? These are words we say whist thinking of what we really want to utter.

Have you been listening to the output from the bus this last day or so? Whist Sal has been off; Sue has taken up the reigns and rode the program like a seasoned pro. Thing is, every now and then she uses some of these thinking words – Sue’s favourite is “like I say” and “as I said”.

We have an agreement, every time she spouts thinking words she gets a kick. Chris gets the honour of kicking her – you don’t have to ask Chris twice. Ohh the perks of the job!

Tony Paulaskas - cracking gangster name or what? Sounds like he would kick your teeth in if you disrespected him doesn’t it. Get that out of your mind, he’s a nice fella from the smoke who came up here in the 80’s with work (hit man we reckon) and decided to stay. If you get chance check out the listen again option on this site – he sounds like Tommy Cooper.

Beverley and Cheryl came to see us from Fibro and opened our eyes to a condition we didn’t know existed. The bulbs are going well, with pledges coming thick and fast, Cath explained all about freeflow, very interesting stuff.

Coldest day of the year so far on the bus, at times it resembled a mobile refrigeration unit but when the heater kicks in it warms up, have to go now, one of my fingers has just snapped off when I hit the enter button.

The BBC Bus team.

------

MONDAY 5 FEBRUARY

Bus

(l-r) David and Carol: David was a maths teacher he now volunteers at bprcvs; Sue and Chris have a quick cuddle and carers Bev and Sarah.

------

We’re back…

Big thanks to the girls last week at the library at Fleetwood and a million apologies for having to cut our visit short. Thursday saw a poorly bus and Friday found a poorly Sal.

Couple of years ago Sal had breast cancer, like most other things it didn’t stand a chance against the Salmeister but it did however chuck her into menopause – you need it don’t you!!

She was given a shed load of medication to take but these things sometimes kick back and the time has come for her to drop the med.

Most of us only ever come across cold turkey on Boxing Day, Sal at the moment is doing a train spotting sketch and our love goes to her.

East Lancashire voluntary sector recourse centre – now there’s a mouth full, is the location for the BBC bus this week. This is a link to their website http://www.bprcvs.co.uk/index2.html.

This is one of those venues that makes making radio easy. There are just so many people to talk to and they are very keen to do so.

Sue and Chris are doing the deed today and yet again the hour between 2 and 3 was filled with quality informative entertaining radio – think different? Use the blog to say so.

Let us know what you think of this hour from the bus, do you have any ideas? If so don’t be shy – share them.

i missed the programme where the bus turned up at the Rostron arms. Is there any way i can listen to the show again. I believe radio lancs where trying to find out where the name Rostron derives from. As i am a rostron living in preston it would be interesting to listen to what radio lancs has to say. My dad was brought up in the harris orphanage on garstang rd in preston along with his 2 brothers and i believe he was born near to edenfield

fran the man
hi sally and chris, its fran the bacon butty burning man lol.ment to drop you both a line yesterday ( being thursday 13th sept) after looking at your review on the little market town of ormy, but thanks to the powers of Mr Bill Gates, i couldn't ( you can always rely on him for making a computer crash).Once again thank you very much for coming to see us at the market, and i hope you return again very soon. but this time i will make sure the bra detective, aka talk so fast you cannot get a word in, aka joyce, will give me a little bit more warning so we can advertise your arrival.hopefully when you next come i should have the "Jangles Cafe Monster Truck!" ready and waiting, its on order, but sadly its not like the limmo truck ( i wish!) its just a kitted up Quad Bike.any way took some picks of the bus and im adding them to my web site if you get a free minute sometime check it out....www.janglescafe.co.ukonce agian thanks for your hard work, fran (jangles cafe)

Danny Duxbury
After reading your page, i have to congratulate you for the work that you and your team have done. what happened to pete today?

Marjorie Nye
Well what can I say! Sally and the blue bus crew came to see us at Marsh Mill to help promote our Arts Festival for the August Bank Holiday Weekend. They did all that and more! Sorry if we got in the way but we did our best to help. I have always been a fan of the B B C but the outside broadcasting unit is a superb way to get local news across and we love them all! Thanks again team.

Wendy - one of the crazy arts women
The bus has been just fantastic so far this week. They have helped to promote an important Community Arts Festival taking place over the bank holiday, talked to the Mayor, read poetry, viewed an art exhibition, interviewed writers, photographers, poets and spoken to those two crazy old women - Marjorie and Wendy and much more and it's only Wednesday. I don't know how they do it but I'm glad they do.Wendy Wood

Mary Marsland
Really pleased that you liked the painting of the lost ball at Thompson's Park.It actually did happen. The sequel was that the girl took off her shoes and socks and retrieved it. Thanks again MM

Watch: (this space)
Enjoyed the video 'Arts and Crafts' excellently done - hit the right tone. Not a church goer or believer (once was a 'bit of a goer' ...) but the peace of the video transcended the 'elling' of the craft fair. Excellent, just excellent.

Hello Chris and Sally. You don't know me, I was one person who got on the bus outside Botany Bay. I really needed a friend, someone to talk to, because I had just got the worst news I have ever had in my life. I thought no one cared about anyone or anything, and you made me welcome - and you have no idea how much that meant to me. One day I will pluck up the courage to come back to the bus and introduce myself - but for now, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Penny Black
Hope the bus is feeling better - a couple of aspirins should do it Chris!Great fun in the Oxfam shop - see you soon..Pete & Johnwww.PennyBlackFolk.co.uk

Simone From Yorkshire
My Mum Muriel Wearne told me that the bus is coming to Clitheroe near to where she lives but could not go along due to having got gastroenteritis tummy bug. Clitheroe is a lovely place but property prices and rents are ridiculously high priced by greedy landlords and estate agents and want to personally move relocate back to this area from Skipton but cant afford to find anything affordable and good quality decent. I love listening to Radio Lancashire but like my Mother sometimes think that the presenters act to daft some of the time but listen to the great show anyway and where has dennis chemist programme gone he is not on that much these days

daisy hargreaves
that lady lisa is my mums sister from oxfam can you give her abig hello on the radio from daisy and george

Val from Longridge
