Friday on the bus

FRIDAY 8 DECEMBER 2006

(l-r) Chris about to launch into a Carpenters song, Phil and Nina, and the boys from Silence

------

"The BBC Bus started to take on the appearance of a confectioners today after the whole of Cleveleys turned up with cakes, pies and biscuits. We’ve decided that Phil’s weekly tales that he lives on a diet of Cheerios has inspired the whole of the town to turn up with something to fatten him up! Not only that, Janet and Dave Whitworth from the local bakers have taken all of the Busketeers under their wing and today provided us with pea and ham soup to warm up our cockles! In fact, we are all now heading in to Cleveleys Library to borrow a copy of ‘the F Plan diet’ book in attempt to slim down for Christmas.

A debate raged on the bus today between Phil and Chris about whether Sylvester Stallone should hang up his boxing gloves and save us from the next installment of Rocky XI which comes to our cinemas in the New Year. The chat was prompted by Stuart Shepherd from the local Vue Cinema who came on board to tell us about what films are on over the Christmas and New Year period. We’ve decided that Chris fancies himself as a bit of an action hero the way he throws cables around the bus and runs around like a mad man but Phil and Pete decided after the way he’s been spending hours waiting to reverse away from the library that he’s more a Driving Miss Daisy!

It was a very musical bus today (apart from when Chris started singing Carpenters songs – we kid you not!) as we were joined by a local group called Silence and a guitarist from the nearby guitar shop. Obviously the people of Cleveleys are a very musical lot to have their own guitar shop. Interestingly further down the parade of shops is a skateboard shop which has now closed down – maybe yesterday’s story of the Hamster being caught speeding down the prom has put off the adventurous residents.

The BBC Bus has reached its final stop in Cleveleys and we’ve thrown Mr Trow off for not paying his fare (so if you see a strange looking man with his thumb up outside Cleveleys library, our advice is give him a wide berth) and we’re now off to pick up Mrs Naden already for our next week on the road which will be at Barden Mill in Burnley – see you there!"

THURSDAY 7 DECEMBER 2006

(l-r) The glamorous Edita, Ian, Big Q and Garry wonders what the whiff is.

------

"Did we say it was windy this week? Well today just got worse - it is as bad as we have seen it in six years on the road, the bus is rocking big time. Ironic on a day that Phil had his car broken into (and is still miffed that they left his CD collection behind) that we had two members of Her Majesty’s constabulary on board today. PC Quentin Alan known as the Big Q, 6 feet and 7 inches of prime British policeman brought in a headline from the Gazette – (see photo) As well as telling us about speeding hamsters, he also told us about murdered gnomes and parrots with solicitors! Where else could you hear such stories than on the BBC Bus!

The day started without Mr Trow (he was having his photo taken for some new publicity shots – apparently the make-up artist started work on him at 8 am and was only half finished at 11 when he had his photo taken!) and so Gary and Chris opened up shop to a rather strange smell (we wondered if Sal had left a pair of her stockings down the back of the heater!) The result was that Gary spent half the morning on his hands and knees searching for the cause of the stench! At the time of writing, we still haven’t found the cause and thus the air fresheners spread around the bus!

Phil was slightly worried about his job when a Polish broadcaster came on board (Mr Trow claims to be a Polished broadcaster, but we all know different!) – her name was Edita and she brought some much needed glamour to the bus (well between Phil and Chris, Dot Cotton would provide some glamour!) She is over here working in Cleveleys and says she wouldn’t mind working for the BBC (shame she didn’t apply for The Gift!).

Finally apologies to all in Cleveleys library because we broke the ‘Please be Quiet’ policy by starting up a jet engined model plane just outside the building! It made one heck of a noise and I can imagine it disturbed one or two readers peace and quiet. So apologies for that ... anyway ... must fly!"

Wednesday montage

WEDNESDAY 6 DECEMBER 2006

(l-r) Stuart Gratix,  Phil, Chris and Peter and the biggest policeman in the world

------

"Given the chance, what would you do in an empty library? The three Buskateers-Phil, Chris and Pete had sole occupation of Cleveleys Library for a WHOLE day today since it has been officially closed and we were the only people with the key! (officially for brew water and ablutions!)

So we’ve run up and down the rows of shelves singing loudly without anyone Shhhing us! We’ve stamped the date all over our faces! We’ve resorted the card system and left a note on the door FREE BOOK SALE ! And.......

This morning started well with Phil, as promised, arriving with blueberry muffins for the guys, Pete delivered three custards but Chris, hereon known as Porthos, since his so-called diet was finally abandoned under the weight of a steak pie, a meat and potato pie and a vat sized celery soup; turned up empty handed!!

Phil has been on good form presenting the show.

Towards the end of the broadcast PC Quentin Allen the biggest policeman in the northwest came aboard (check out our photos - 6ft 7ins)"

Tuesday montage

TUESDAY 5 DECEMBER 2006

(l-r) Phil puts 'em up, and then Phil and Chris try to look all professional and serious... who are they trying to kid?! And finally Bill the dog man.

------

"If there is one thing in life you shouldn’t do its offer to fight a world champion boxer. Phil the “nutter” Trow attended the BBC sports award last night and we think he had a tad too much bravery juice as today he has been trying all manner of ways to get out of it!

If we hadn’t been here before we would think Cleveleys had a serious weather issue, it has either rained or blown a gale since we arrived.

With Christmas approaching not for the first time in his career Phil found himself pulling on a pair of tights, he will have to get a lad in. Speaking of Aladdin the cast from the Marine Hall in Fleetwood came on the BBC Bus and roped Phil into playing the Emperor although in truth it was very wishy washy! Phil got into the part by asking the question... where’s my career, to which he was told... it’s behind you!!

There’s a pie theme here out in Cleveleys, we had mince pies from the library and our mission to try the pies at Taylor’s – who have been around in the town since 1939 - nearly as long as Joe Wilson has been at BBC Radio Lancashire.

The next time you come on the bus and wonder who ate all the pies, it will be obvious with our ever increasing waistlines."

pictures from the bus

MONDAY 4 DECEMBER 2006

(l-r) Sal's feet, Josie brought her dad along, Chris gets a helping hand from the girls at Cleveleys Library, and Queen Sally of Naden

------

"Chris woke up on Saturday morning to find he no longer had a shed – he is shedless! It could be that Dorothy used it to get to Oz. Today could be the same – we are strapping the bus to the pavement outside Cleveleys Library and battening down the hatches as the wind is wild! There are easy rigs and there are hard rigs, this week, rigging the bus falls into the latter, the phone connection and the power come from separate rooms and the wind makes things even harder.

Getting to Cleveleys by 9.30am should be a lot easier than it actually is, the M6 lately is a nightmare with standing traffic leading to the M55 and those drivers that stop and wait in lane three, indicating left to get in the M55 lanes must be mad!!

Sal arrived at the bus after a busy weekend; Friday night saw her presenting a Volunteer of the Year award at Cuerdan Hall for Rosemere. On Saturday morning she opened the Christmas fair at central Methodist church Blackpool and believe it or not she actually dragged in quite a few punters – it would appear people thought she was someone else!

Sally was talking to Councillor Keith Tibbs, for some reason they got on to the subject of Sal's feet, Keith asked for any tips regarding keeping warm – Sal has good tips, well one anyway....

Josie and Dad Pete with Mum came to see us on the bus – it turns out Pete is a big fan of Sally, strange really as he looks normal...

And look at that last picture, have you noticed how presenters look younger these days?!"

i missed the programme where the bus turned up at the Rostron arms. Is there any way i can listen to the show again. I believe radio lancs where trying to find out where the name Rostron derives from. As i am a rostron living in preston it would be interesting to listen to what radio lancs has to say. My dad was brought up in the harris orphanage on garstang rd in preston along with his 2 brothers and i believe he was born near to edenfield

hi sally and chris, its fran the bacon butty burning man lol.ment to drop you both a line yesterday ( being thursday 13th sept) after looking at your review on the little market town of ormy, but thanks to the powers of Mr Bill Gates, i couldn't ( you can always rely on him for making a computer crash).Once again thank you very much for coming to see us at the market, and i hope you return again very soon. but this time i will make sure the bra detective, aka talk so fast you cannot get a word in, aka joyce, will give me a little bit more warning so we can advertise your arrival.hopefully when you next come i should have the "Jangles Cafe Monster Truck!" ready and waiting, its on order, but sadly its not like the limmo truck ( i wish!) its just a kitted up Quad Bike.any way took some picks of the bus and im adding them to my web site if you get a free minute sometime check it out....www.janglescafe.co.ukonce agian thanks for your hard work, fran (jangles cafe)

what happened to pete today?

Marjorie Nye
Well what can I say! Sally and the blue bus crew came to see us at Marsh Mill to help promote our Arts Festival for the August Bank Holiday Weekend. They did all that and more! Sorry if we got in the way but we did our best to help. I have always been a fan of the B B C but the outside broadcasting unit is a superb way to get local news across and we love them all! Thanks again team.

Wendy - one of the crazy arts women
The bus has been just fantastic so far this week. They have helped to promote an important Community Arts Festival taking place over the bank holiday, talked to the Mayor, read poetry, viewed an art exhibition, interviewed writers, photographers, poets and spoken to those two crazy old women - Marjorie and Wendy and much more and it's only Wednesday. I don't know how they do it but I'm glad they do.Wendy Wood

Mary Marsland
Really pleased that you liked the painting of the lost ball at Thompson's Park.It actually did happen. The sequel was that the girl took off her shoes and socks and retrieved it. Thanks again MM

Watch: (this space)
Enjoyed the video 'Arts and Crafts' excellently done - hit the right tone. Not a church goer or believer (once was a 'bit of a goer' ...) but the peace of the video transcended the 'elling' of the craft fair. Excellent, just excellent.

Hello Chris and Sally. You don't know me, I was one person who got on the bus outside Botany Bay. I really needed a friend, someone to talk to, because I had just got the worst news I have ever had in my life. I thought no one cared about anyone or anything, and you made me welcome - and you have no idea how much that meant to me. One day I will pluck up the courage to come back to the bus and introduce myself - but for now, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Penny Black
Hope the bus is feeling better - a couple of aspirins should do it Chris!Great fun in the Oxfam shop - see you soon..Pete & Johnwww.PennyBlackFolk.co.uk

Simone From Yorkshire
My Mum Muriel Wearne told me that the bus is coming to Clitheroe near to where she lives but could not go along due to having got gastroenteritis tummy bug. Clitheroe is a lovely place but property prices and rents are ridiculously high priced by greedy landlords and estate agents and want to personally move relocate back to this area from Skipton but cant afford to find anything affordable and good quality decent. I love listening to Radio Lancashire but like my Mother sometimes think that the presenters act to daft some of the time but listen to the great show anyway and where has dennis chemist programme gone he is not on that much these days

daisy hargreaves
that lady lisa is my mums sister from oxfam can you give her abig hello on the radio from daisy and george

We were very impressed with Sally and Chris they made the week at our Antique Centre lot of fun, not only did they turn up once the buss had been taken away.
