Action Line and Campaigns

learning to cross the road

Together we can make a difference

BBC Radio Lancashire is joining the Road Safety Group in a campaign to make our roads safer...

Lancashire County Council’s Road Safety Group works with many organisations on a national and local level to improve road safety awareness in Lancashire.  The aim of the Group is to reduce road casualties through the delivery of Road Safety education, driver, rider and child pedestrian training, along with publicity to help make Lancashire a safer place in which to walk, cycle, ride and drive.

Together with the Road Safety Group, BBC Radio Lancashire are hoping to 'Make the Difference' so everyone in Lancashire can get information and advice about road safety.

If you would like information about the services and resources available from the Road Safety Group, please visit their website or call free on 0800 328 1635.

The Road Safety Group also runs the following initiatives...

Pre Pass Support Scheme

This course is currently free and designed to help accompanying drivers give advice and guidance to learner drivers. Research shows that private practice alongside professional instruction is the most effective way for learner drivers to gain experience and reduce the probability of being involved in a road traffic accident within the first two years of driving.

Drive On Course

The Drive-On course supports drivers who have lost confidence in their driving. These could be older road users, drivers who have not driven for a considerable time or people who have suffered a debilitating illness.

The course aims to give drivers the opportunity to address their own particular driving problems and be able to deal with them.

Managing Occupational Road Risk – MORR

Driving is essential, but it is also often the most dangerous activity people undertake for work.

To help reduce crashes, specialist Road Safety Group advisers can advise how to implement Safety Action Plans with the co-operation of company managers.  Only with a robust policy to manage occupational road risk can an organisation protect its employees, other road users and itself.

MiDAS

The Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) is a programme developed to enhance the driving and passenger awareness skills of individuals who drive minibuses in the course of their work or as volunteers.

DSA Accredited Fleet Trainer Course

The Driving Standards Agency accredited Fleet Training Course provides the knowledge and skills to enable an instructor to be able to assess and instruct employees who operate in a work-related driving environment.

Motorcycle Training Assessment

This free assessment is offered to motorcyclists who wish to take advantage of a professional riding instructor’s assessment of their riding ability, awareness and perception.

Right Start

Right Start is a progressive child pedestrian training programme developed to enable children to become safer pedestrians, and is designed for use in primary schools.

The programme is based on research showing that children learn best through practical experience in the traffic environment. 41,000 children aged 4 to 7 years have benefited from the scheme since 1999.

Passport to safer cycling

The Passport to Safer Cycling scheme is designed to enable young cyclists to develop a greater understanding of road usage and to ride with an improved degree of safety, thereby reducing the risk of accidents.

30,000 pupils aged 10 years or over have benefited from the scheme since 1997.

I went on a speed awareness course and found it very interesting. It has made a difference to my driving.

Keep up the good work. I was formerly a Road Safety Officer in Lancashire and now the President of the Canadian Traffic Safety Institute in Vancouver, Canada.
