Curling hit the headlines in 2002 when the whole nation became captivated by a group of Scottish women and their brooms who won gold in the Olympics. Not many of us had heard of curling before - and even fewer knew the rules. But for one glorious and strange moment at the winter olympics they became the nations sweethearts.

However, as far back as 1867 a number of travelling drapers from the north met at the White Bull in Church Street in Blackburn and decided unanimously to form a curling club - The Blackburn Caledonians.
