Whilst the Britsports season finished at the end of September (with great success with a Juno double win at Silverstone) there was little time for a rest for the Lancashire race crew as they turned their attention to the winter series. The winter series consisted of two rounds and proves to be a popular arena for drivers to get a ‘taster’ of different cars as they start to plan their next season. And unsurprisingly given Juno’s success in 2005, there were many a driver keen to drive the Juno in the winter series to see first hand just what all the fuss was about. Welsh driver, Jeff Davies teamed up alongside Essex GT racer, Ryan Hooker for the first round held at Snetterton in Norfolk at the start of November. Jeff had already piloted the Juno some weeks earlier as a solo driver at a Welsh event which resulted in a commanding win that whetted the appetite all the more. Ryan, who had partnered Juno regular Dominic Lesniewski in the past in GT racing, was very keen to get a go in the car his former team-mate had raved about. Jeff and Ryan’s partnership was to prove formidable as they took a stunning win by over 37seconds! It’s fair to say everyone couldn’t wait for two weeks to pass, to get out on track for the next round at the famous Brands Hatch circuit. At Brands Hatch the Juno presence was doubled as Jeff and Ryan were joined by James Richardson and Ben Devlin, also in a Juno SS3-V6. It soon became apparent that the Junos were the cars to beat in a competitive field. The race was split into two runs with the aggregate time deciding the overall winner. Sadly, James and Ben started on the back foot as a small problem saw them start a number of laps down from the pit-lane whilst out on track Jeff was putting in a strong drive to take the lead by over 15 seconds. James and Ben were putt in breath taking laps to scythe through the field, with Ben setting a new lap record. After a short break, the second part of the race was on the way which was to be a Juno stronghold! James and Ben took the lead with Ryan hot on their heels for a hammer and tongs battle to the finish line. After the chequered flag fell the aggregate times were calculated with Jeff and Ryan taking the win with James and Ben in third place overall, an especially impressive result given their fighting start. With both Junos on the podium and having dominated the winter series, it proved a fantastic finish to the year’s racing and certainly confirmed that Juno are a force to be reckoned with on the track! Indeed, shortly afterwards it was announced that both Jeff and James had purchased Juno SS3-V6s to race in 2006. A further SS3-V6 was sold to Mike Roberts who will also race in 2006 and a further deal was on the cards for a driver looking to compete in France. So in 2006 the Juno presence will be even greater! After well deserved celebrations on return to the Preston factory it was back to hard graft with the launch of the Juno TR Range. This range of cars has been specially designed by Juno for the trackday car market. Trackdays have become increasingly popular as many people attend circuits across the UK to experience the thrill of track driving and receive professional tuition, indeed a number of drivers who have honed their skills on trackdays and gone on to become racing drivers! With this in mind, Juno Racing have produced a car which will enable the keenest driver to develop from trackday driver to racer. The TR Range is based on Juno’s own successful racecar the SS3-V6 to provide performance at an affordable price. The modular design of the bodywork means that when a minor mishap does occur it doesn’t mean a major repair bill! Whilst looking every inch the exciting racecar, the TR range is extremely versatile with an engine bay which allows for upgrading to a more powerful engine as the driver’s skills increase. So, should a driver decide to graduate from trackday experience to racing, the car is adaptable and eligible to enter competition. Within days of the launch three were ordered so the Juno crew may just rival Santa’s elves for busy hands this winter! |
