On Friday 12th June 2009 I was surprised to be invited on stage in the centre of Nashville, Tennessee where I was presented with  the highly prestigious award from the Country Music Association of America for outstanding contributions to Country Music.

Joe Fish receives another award!

Joe Fish receives another award!

This is the Highest Award achievable in Country Music and of course I was delighted to be honoured in this way by the CMA's CEO Tammy Genovese and CMA Board member Jeff Walker.

It is without doubt the pinnacle of my career and to be presented with it during the World Famous CMA Music Festival in Nashville, the home of Country Music, makes it all the more special.

More about Joe...

Although Bolton born Joe Fish would be the first to agree that his favourite form of music is TRADITIONAL Country Music, he points out that he also enjoys a wide range of music including Modern Pop & Pop Classics plus Dixieland Jazz, the odd Classical piece and even rap!

Joe firmly believes that the reason for the popularity of his “Joe Fish Country” programme on BBC Radio Lancashire is the balance of traditional and modern day Country Music. Keeping the music up-to-date but always remembering the “roots” and sprinkling of classics. And, of course, the participation of listeners from all over Lancashire (and beyond) is a vital ingredient. Another important element of the programme is highlighting the often forgotten humour in Country Music – Something that critics often overlook. Today, Country Music is far more popular all over the World than some people realise.

Joe has recently received his latest award - "Favourite Country Music Presenter in the UK" as voted by listeners in the 14th Annual UK Country Radio Awards held in Surrey. This was Joe's third award in three years!   The first time this has happened in the history of the Awards.

According to the Awards organisers, listeners voted very enthusiastically.  The result ensured that BBC Radio Lancashire also won "Favourite Radio Station in the UK" at the same awards.

It has been said that Joe’s life story is worthy of a novel having been rescued by fire-fighters from a house fire as a baby with serious burns which led to his desire to becoming a Fire Officer, which he did for over 30 years before battling cancer of the skull requiring five major operations.

Having put the health problems behind him, Joe went on to form a highly successful Tour Company escorting Country Music Fans & holiday-makers to all parts of America including; Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Los Angeles, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Yosemite National Park, San Francisco, South Dakota, Memphis, Pigeon Forge (Dollywood) The Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii & Bermuda.

Joe is a huge Bolton Wanderers fan and is also enjoys Cricket with Lancashire, England and Local Cricket teams.
