John "Gilly" Gillmore

Gilly brings you a round-up of the day's events. Find out more about Gilly...

------

Aged 11, on hearing his local radio station, BBC Radio Merseyside, Gilly thought to himself, "This is only eight miles from home - I would love to work there when I leave school". Of course, when he was at school there was no such thing as media courses, so his teachers told him to get a 'proper job'.

Gilly

This he did and went to work at his local Co-op in St Helens as a counter clerk on the bank counter. The highlight of the job was paying out the twice yearly dividend to members. He can remember the queues around the building!

He also got the chance to do the in-store announcements on the tannoy and compere fashion shows and exhibitions for them.

Still bitten by the radio bug, he spent several years as a volunteer with his local hospital radio station at Whiston. He was persistent in sending off demo tapes to radio stations in the North West, eventually getting the chance to present for Red Rose Radio in Preston where he stayed for almost 13 years, presenting every programme on the station.

ARIES
Messages, coming and going, information downloading, research and learning – it’s all about communication this month.  A perfect time for gathering together all the paperwork you need; for reading, researching and discussing.  Fun to be had teaching or studying, there’s such a lot to think about this month!  Variety is the spice of life but remember you will have to finish some of the jobs you start!  In your private life you’ll need to get something of your chest, chose your moment wisely.

LEO
Now’s the perfect time to take a step back, cool off and calmly assess what’s going on around you.  You might need to get away to see things clearly.  Don’t be fooled by appearances, you need to get beneath the surface of things to get to the truth.  If you trust your intuition you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.  Boats, water and nature lift you’re your spirits.  A floating restaurant or sea cruise sets the scene for glamour and romance.

SAGITTARIUS
It’s time to start your own 60s revival,  dig out your rainbow clothes, wrap round some love beads and chill out ‘cos this month is all about ‘love and peace man!’ it’s time to enjoy the simple thing in life.  Your love life will benefit from this relaxed, playful mood too.  It’s time to treat the special people in your life to some unexpected gifts:  if you can make them smile then that’s great, but if you make them laugh – even better!

TAURUS
If you’re feeling overworked and underpaid now is the time to ask for some help and appreciation!  No point in suffering in silence is there?  Team work is the answer but there won’t be any unless you ask.  So it’s perfect time to speak up, loud and clear!  Remember, you are guided and protected. In fact even strangers may be helpful now.  Follow the music for friendship and fun.  It’s going to be a creative and romantic month for you to enjoy.

VIRGO
Your love life is up, down, complicated and passionate; it’s a hot and steamy rollercoaster!  If you’re looking for love then this is the month you’ve been waiting for…   But it’s your working life that really takes centre stage this month.  It’s time to focus on your long term future, your career, your destiny.  It’s the perfect time to push ahead for your goals and ambitions.  Believe in yourself and there’ll be no stopping you.  So seize the day and stutt your stuff.

CAPRICORN
Sometimes it’s tough at the top and even lower down life can be pretty demanding.  But it’s time for a little relaxation now, it’s time to allow yourself a well earned break.  It’s not about duty or work or jobs.  It’s about feeling the earth under your feet, the wind in your hair and more than any of that it’s about having a great big cuddle!  Enjoy the countryside and checkout the antique shops and car boot sales for a fabulous bargain!

GEMINI
Happy birthday Gemini - It’s party time!  and a wonderful time for getting together with your family and friends and breaking open a bottle of bubbly!  It’s time for making new friends too and you twinkle most brightly when you’re talking about your interests and hobbies.  You’re challenge is to get your message across this month; it’s important to convince them that you know what you’re talking about – so put on a brave face and smile even if you’re knees are knocking!

LIBRA
New starts, new beginnings, it’s an exciting month for Libra!  But first out with the old and that is not so easy.  You have the feeling that things haven’t been fair, you are not really being listened to or understood and this needs sorting out.  Then you can put the past behind you and move on; you’ll feel happier, lighter – empowered!  So move on and enjoy this month by being creative and welcoming new ideas, inspirations and people into your life!

AQUARIUS
Which way to turn is the question?  Well really there are no wrong choices now so my advice would be to follow your heart and chose the path of independence and originality!  It’s not a time for same old, same old; you need to let the real you shine out.  So ditch the crowd and do your own thing. Try something new in your love life too, book a treat, a date, an adventure for two - and do it in style!

CANCER
It’s time to put your boxing gloves on!  You’ll have a fight on your hands this month! So stand up for yourself and what you believe in, be fair but firm - and stick to your guns.  Win or lose it’s the principle that counts. It’s the perfect month for tying up loose ends, finishing off those outstanding jobs.  Things are happening behind the scenes; you’ll have some nice opportunities coming your way soon and you’ll want to be free to enjoy them!

SCORPIO
There’s something magical about this month!  And it’s something rather nice…..   There seems to be a fated quality to your situation and despite all the odds things are going your way.   There will be clues and messages to guide you through the month.  You are like a detective hot on the trail of something – or someone – that excites you!  This is a good month for keeping a diary, a notebook or sketchbook.  Winning ideas will be pouring in and you don’t want to forget them!

PISCES
An encouraging month for your business life, it seems like all your efforts are finally being noticed!  Sometimes you feel a bit overlooked or taken for granted but this month you’ll realise that there are some quality people around who really do appreciate who you are and what you do.  This boosts your self esteem and makes you feel good - and the spring in your step starts turning heads…… which will lead to a type of appreciation that you’re really going to enjoy!
