Flintoff wins NW Sports Personality of the Year

England's Ashes hero Andrew Flintoff got your vote for the BBC North West Sports Personality of the Year Award - again - in awards staged at the Midland Hotel, Manchester.

The Prestonian was unable to be at the awards in person - with current duties in Pakistan - but he was filmed receiving the Award.

Reflecting on the year, Flintoff said:"It's been an amazing year with the Ashes and being part of a tremendous side. I play with a lot of really good lads, we have fun and play some great cricket.

"I'd like to thank everybody who voted for me to win this award and I'd like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."

Another Lancashire cricketer was honoured, too, in this year's Awards.

Lancashire legend Clive Lloyd was inducted into the BBC Hall of Fame for his contribution to the sport.

Jack Simmonds presented Lloyd with the accolade.

Simmonds said of the 2005 addition to the Hall of Fame: "Clive's greatest strength was he always played for the team - he was a great team man which made him the fantastic player he was, he always put the side first."

Golfer Nick Doherty was named the BBC Radio Lancashire Sports Personality for his first win on the European Tour and finishing in the top 15 in the European Order of Merit this season.

Like Flintoff he was unable to attend the Awards but sent a message via a filmed insert.

Dougherty said: "I have tried to get there but I can't be at the awards as I'm playing in the China Open at the weekend. Winning this award means the world to me. I'm delighted to accept this honour, I've had a really great year. "
