Whilst on the BBC Bus: Chris 'fesses up

If he's not driving the bus (which he does very well he tells us), Chris is usually found in front of one of the buses PCs. Or helping a visitor out with a query. Or taking 'direction' from his bus mate Sally. Yes he works hard for his money!

Where have you had the best cuppa?

Steve and Christine from Waterfoot always make a great cup of decaff.

What has been your most memorable moment?

We were parked at Foulridge near Colne showing someone the BBC website and pictures of the planes hitting the twin towers started appearing. Some people had just gone off on an hour's barge trip and we told them what had happened when they returned. I'll never forget that day.

What has been the most challenging parking situation?

Lots of them! Lancaster Judges Lodges is a killer as we have to reverse all the way in. I could go on and on….. (yeah we know)

What was the funniest moment?

Parked outside a community centre in Preston we were visited by the people who oversee radio stations in the UK. These were VIP's and I was doing a talk regarding how everything works on the bus. Suddenly everything went off on the bus - we had lost power. I went inside to see what had happened to find an elderly lady had pulled our plug out to plug in the toaster!

Have you ever crashed the bus?

Crash is a word we try not to use. I would rather say "war wounds" and "battle scars". The bus is very heavy and manhole covers on pub car parks have a tendency to 'dissolve' if we drive over them. (nuff said)

Where is the most opinionated area of Lancashire?

East Lancashire likes to have its say.

Which venue made you laugh the most?

SEE OTHER.

What in your opinion is the most fascinating fact about the BBC Bus?

That before January 2001 there was no such thing as a bus with computers and broadcast gear - now there are 20 odd of them.

What has been the most interesting thing you've learned from a visitor to the bus?

I learn something new every day from meeting our visitors. We have had Lord and Lady Clitheroe on the bus at the same time as 'normal folk' and I have learnt a lot from them all.
