    Level 2 - Tutor's Toolkit - Application of Number

This section of the site concentrates on providing a comprehensive resource for anyone who is in the position of teaching Key Skills, Application of Number at Level 2. The toolkit comprises a number of documents providing details on what students should be taught and on what they are expected to know for each of the course specifications.

    A few notes:

    • Calculators are NOT to be used in Key Skills exams at Levels 1 and 2. Therefore, the scope of calculations set in exams is restricted to those that can be done without a calculator. This restriction does not apply to portfolio work. (Calculators are required at Level 3.)
Often, instead of doing the calculation to find a result, candidates in the exam are asked to choose between possible calculations.
    • For portfolio evidence:
Candidates DO NOT have to show evidence for all of the items in this document in their portfolio (refer to the Key Skills handbook for the required evidence).
All evidence MUST be derived from a task that is meaningful to the candidate and which has a clear purpose. Worksheets and exercises are NEVER acceptable.
    • For the tests:
Candidates need to be thoroughly familiar with all of the items in this series of documents. However, the coding [NOE] (not on exam) is used for items that cannot be or have not been found on exam papers.

    I wish to look at:

    Interpreting Information

    Presenting Findings

    Calculations
