1947
Heavy snowfalls, aided by abnormally cold weather, produced transport chaos in many parts of Kent. Village stores and inns were running low in supplies. For instance, a baker and his assistant from Rainham trudged for two miles in order to reach the village of Bredhurst, cut off by snow.
29th January1949
In this legendary winter, Kent's lowest official temperature was recorded at Elmstone: -6F (-21C)
31st January1953A storm surge, driven by hurricane - force north-westerly winds crashed against the east coast sea defences causing widespread flooding and extensive damage to more then 1,000 miles of coastline.
1st February1954
A police station in Margate was evacuated in the early hours due to a tidal surge. A photographer Chris Fright discovered a "forgotten" drunk in the cells.
2nd February1904It was safe to ice skate on the frozen Keston Pond for the ninth consecutive day that causes two Bromley schools to closed.
3rd February1940
A freak tidal wave swept up the channel leaving a trail of devastation in east Kent coastal areas. Elsewhere in the country gale force wind and heavy rain caused considerable damage to property and widespread flooding has brought work to a standstill.
