1940
 It was the coldest month ever known and piercing winds whipped snow into huge drifts and many Kent villages were marooned with supplies dangerously low.
17th January1912
A remarkable glaze occurred at Chatham and Gravesend, where trees were heavily coated with ice. Rain fell and froze immediately.
18th January1881'The blizzard was one of the mightiest ever known in the south east of England. Trains were buried in 16 feet of snow. The seas had rarely behaved so angrily. Shops and houses were awash and all along the Kent coast was widespread destruction'.
19th January1978
Snow and icy roads were responsible for three fatal accidents involving cars in Maidstone, Margate and Hawkhurst on the same day.
