Youth
message board: Young Gypsies have their say.
|
Tom:
Traditionally the Gypsy Traveller lifestyle was an outdoor
one and many Travellers still maintain the country ways. Tom
plans to continue to live the country life as he grows older.

what he prefers doing

Coly:
Many
young Travellers are growing up in houses leading a very different
life to that of their parents and grandparents. Coly would
far rather be back on a site living amongst other Travellers.
Coly feels
her heritage is under threat

Four young Gypsies share their thoughts on their lifestyle,
heritage and the future for the Romany heritage.
Amy is half Romany and her
mum used to live in a caravan until she was eight, but then
it got harder and harder to find stopping places. They live
in a house now, and don't really follow the "old"
way of life at all...
Charlotte
tells of of the days when her parents and grand-parents
went hop picking.
Joe likes the country life.
Sarah
tells about cooking meat pudding over an open fire and shares
here grandmother's recipe.
Charlene
is positive about the future.
Annie
and Lizzie talk about life in a cramped house..
|
Gypsy
fashion is in vogue locally and many young people want to imitate
the Traveller ways.
Listen to what some
of the girls think
