John Warnett

John Warnett: biography

I was born a man of Kent but now live as a Kentish Man, or is it the other way around... I can never remember. Raised in Sidcup - live in Maidstone. I joined Radio Kent as a sports reporter in 1989.

My job interview at Radio Kent is still among the worst ever done for the BBC!

However, they took pity on me and as I knew lots about cricket and the other guy didn't, I got the job.

"Away from journalism I like to cook, watch cricket and generally eat and be merry!"

John Warnett

My first presenting job was a Saturday morning show which had music and chat and it was here that I developed the current affairs phone-in which is now a major part of Breakfast with John and Jules.

I've been presenting the Breakfast Show for fourteen years and early mornings are now so ingrained in me that I even get up at dawn at the weekends. I read all the papers daily to make sure I know what's going on in the world......as it's essential to be well briefed.

Since January 2009 Julia George has joined me on the Breakfast Show. Jules is a great co-presenter to work with and the show has really developed with her ideas and input.

Away from journalism I like to cook, watch cricket and generally eat and be merry!
