FEATURE: GRAVESEND BOYS & PRIMARY LEAGUE
 Footballer.

The Gravesend Boys & Primary League came together through the joining of the Gravesend Boys League and the Gravesham Primary Football League.

Gravesend Boys and Primary LeagueThis is the new combined league's first season, with a total of eight divisions from Under-8s to Under-16s. There are varying numbers of teams in each division, so fixtures run from the middle of September through until March, April or May.

There are also several different cup competitions throughout the league. Firstly, every division has its own League Cup. U11, U12, U13, U14 and U16 also have the Easter Cup, while U11 and U12 may also have a Supplementary Cup; U8 has the Neilson Fjord Sports Cup; U9 has the Woodruff Sports Cup; and U10 has the Laidlaw Cup.

One of the major differences is in the actual matches played by the Boys and Primary sections. The U11, U12, U13, U14 and U16 divisions all play the standard one game of two halves (different lengths for each age group).

The U8s, U9s and U10s are different though - they're run as Mini-Soccer leagues. Mini-Soccer's been going for five years, and its aim is to provide a more suitable type of football for all children under the age of 10. This includes smaller goals and pitches and fewer players.

Each matchday includes two separate games - 15 minutes each way for U8 (one hour of football in total) and 20 minutes each way for U9 and U10 (total playing time, 1 hour and 20 minutes).

Each separate game is 7-a-side, but with two substitutes who can come on and off at any time. The final rule is that no one player can take part in more than one game per matchday. So each team needs between 14-18 available players to be able to complete each weekend's two allotted fixtures (phew!).
