Comic Relief cash

We meet two women who have been helped my money, raised by you, for Comic Relief.

Annie Garrett

Annie Garrett

Annie Garrett

Annie Garrett and her son Andrew, use the Dandelion Trust Farm near Maidstone which helps people resolve confidence issues arising from situations like domestic violence.

The Dandelion Trust for Children runs therapeutic activities for vulnerable young people against the backdrop of a working farm. Comic Relief funding is being used to extend this specialist service for young survivors of domestic violence.

The intensive nature of the Trusts' work means that it works with severely excluded young people - the people using the project will therefore have multiple needs, with domestic violence triggering behaviours such as self-harming, truancy and criminality.

Jaye Gray

Jaye Gray has found shelter in Canterbury  thanks to the homeless charity Porchlight. Jaye found herself with nowhere to live after her father died.

Young homeless people experiencing mental health problems in the East Kent area have traumatic and troubled lives but cannot get the services they need until a formal diagnosis of their problems has been made.

They are first identified as homeless and in crisis as local mainstream services including GP's are not always able to provide immediate mental health assessments. Porchlight have set up a scheme which employs a Young Persons Mental Health Outreach worker to make diagnosis and refer homeless young people in crisis to the services they need.
