Local HistoryYou are in: Kent > History > Local History > Under the castle ![]() Dover Castle c1890 Under the castleDover Castle has opened some of its previously unseen tunnels to the public as part of its "Hidden Dover" tours. Available from 11.30am until 3pm each day, the free guided tours alternate to take in different areas of the site including the Medieval Underground Works, Avranches Tower and the Outer Curtain Wall. Looking at how the many gateways, towers, tunnels and ramparts were vital in the complex task of withstanding attack, there is also a chance to spot evidence of the 'invisible castle' - the footprint of long gone towers and walls which stood when the Castle was young. We sent Robin Gibson, guided by Phil Wyborn-Brown, on a tour of the tunnels.
Visitors are advised to call the castle on 01304 211067 on the day of their visit to find out which tours are available. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external websites last updated: 07/09/2009 at 14:34 SEE ALSOYou are in: Kent > History > Local History > Under the castle |
