Alongside John Warnett, Julia's bringing a new view on the day’s issues. When Julia joined BBC Radio Kent, it was a homecoming for the former Sevenoaks school girl to her first love, radio. Julia grew up in Tonbridge and arrived at BBC Radio Kent after starting her journalism career at neighbouring stations BBC Sussex & Surrey. London then beckoned and it wasn’t long before Julia was GLR’s (now BBC London) drive time presenter. An open screen test for a new presenter on South East Today’s predecessor Newsroom South East saw her move into television and from 2001 she travelled the length and breadth of the country for BBC Breakfast. ![]() Now mum of one Julia is thoroughly enjoying being behind a radio desk again in her home county: “I am so excited, not just about working in radio again, but about working in radio in Kent. All my family are still here and working in Kent means I get more time with my little girl." “I love television journalism, especially live presenting, but there’s something special about radio. It is much more honest and straight forward; you have a much closer relationship with people. I used to stand in for Vanessa Feltz on BBC London and it was one of the most interesting and exciting things I have done at work. "John and I just want to have fun while giving you good, entertaining radio, that’s hugely important to me.”
