Club's newest member

A thriving table tennis club in Margate has just welcomed its latest member, Stuart. But there's something different about him.

Holy Trinity and St John's Primary School in Margate has two successful table tennis clubs, coached by Mr Ursell. He hopes the newest member will help the kids improve their skills, as well as being a fun opponent.

Stuart, as he's been nicknamed by the clubs' members, is a fully working table tennis robot. He was paid for by funding from the National Lottery's "Awards for All" scheme.

Stuart fires table tennis balls across the table, and can be adjusted to provide varying degrees of difficulty. Even Paul Ursell, who is a fully qualified Level 2 ETTA (English Table Tennis Association) coach, struggles against the machine at its most difficult settings.
