Every year, for the last ten years, a group of dedicated film buffs with a special interest in Powell and Pressburger's film A Canterbury Tale have gathered in the city for a special walk. They visit all the locations featured in the film and re-enact scenes from the movie at each spot. ![]() The film premiered at the now Marlow. One of the stopping points is the Marlow Theatre. The building was once the Odeon Cinema, and it was here that the film received its world premier. Not a Hollywood, or Leicester Square screening for this film! The film makers wanted to thank the residents of Canterbury for their co-operation and involvement in the movie.
The leader of the walk, Paul Tritton, remembers the city as it was when the film was shot back in 1944, and has written a book about the iconic film. He shares his knowledge with loyal band of followers. BBC South East's Robin Gibson caught up with the group and had a chat with Paul about the group, his fascination with the film, and his memories of the time. He freely admitted that the movie wasn't really his sort of film!
![]() Been there, seen it, got the T shirt! For some of the walkers, the day gives them an excuse to chill out with new friends, have a few beers, and revisit the scenes from the film. Jan Wozniak, Tim Dams and Sean Smith had all dressed up for the occasion.
