Roger DayYou are in: Kent > BBC Radio Kent > Weekday programmes > Roger Day > Six Things ![]() Six ThingsYou didn't know about Radio Kent Evening Presenter, Roger Day! 1. I used to be a WaiterWhen I was a school boy to earn extra cash to buy pop records I used to wait on tables at my mother’s guest house in Margate. However, my parents only paid me pocket money so to earn real cash I worked at the Nayland Rock Hotel opposite which paid me a lot more! In the end I was serving breakfast and dinner at home and then working all day the Nayland Rock! I used to do very well on tips though; I was a very pleasant waiter! ![]() Margate, where Roger worked as a waiter 2. I love CookingOne of my favourite hobbies is cooking. Because of the industry I’ve lived away from home a lot and as a result I’ve been forced into cooking and as I’m a perfectionist, I wanted to learn how to do it properly. I’ve read lots of cook books and I experiment a lot. I particularly enjoy doing fish dishes that are usually very spicy! Anyone who eats my food knows they need a very big jug of cold water! My best dish is an Indonesian dish called Nasi Goreng. 3. I have a crush on Sophia LorenI’ve had a huge crush on Sophia Loren for many years now (along with one on my wife of course!) I’ve seen all of her films but never actually met her. I’m hoping Jonathan Witchell will organise an interview with her soon – she’s just a marvellous woman and a great actress. I’m just amazed at how she still looks brilliant after all these years. Everybody goes on about Cliff Richard and Gina Lollobrigida and all the other old timers but Sophia Loren looks better than when she was 20! I don’t know if it’s all the olive oil, I think the Mediterraneans do maintain their looks better than us Brits! ![]() Roger's secret crush, Sophia Loren 4. I have a beautician daughter and a film-maker sonI’ve got two children. My daughter is 28 and a beautician who is travelling the world at the moment. She’s been to America, Australia and is off to Hawaii soon. My son is 18 and wants to be a cameraman. He’s got his own edit suite at home and loves it. He’s into skate boarding and so makes his own short videos, some of which have been shown on television. I know I’m biased but they’re very good! 5. I've known Dave Cash for over forty years! We've been friends for over forty years now! I first met him at the Marquee Club in London when I asked him advice about how to get on radio. I’ve also worked with him down at Radio West in Bristol, at Invicta Radio and now here at Radio Kent so we can’t avoid each other really! I suppose because we’ve been around since the same era we’re like old war comrades that meet up in pubs and talk about silly old stories that we used to do on boats and things like that! ![]() Roger's favourite programme, 24 6. My favourite TV show is 24It’s just a marvellous format. I’ve got most of them on DVD but I see them when they’re on TV too. It’s ridiculous really because I know the way it’s going to turn out! It just leave you on the edge of your seat every week. It reminds me of the old Saturday morning pictures that went from one week to the next and always left the goody in some death-defying stunt where he was hanging off a cliff or stuck on a railway line or something like that. It’s just a good thriller and Jack Bauer’s great! last updated: 16/08/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Kent > BBC Radio Kent > Weekday programmes > Roger Day > Six Things |
