Chatham Town 0-1 GNFC U16

Under 16 League Cup Group D. 12th March

Gravesend failed to qualify to the next stage of this cup after winning only this game out of the four group matches.

This however was a much better performance by the team, after last weeks dismal display. Fleet started the game well with Danny Brann testing the keeper on a couple of occasions.

Chatham worked their way back into the game and put the Fleet on the back foot and were unlucky not to take the lead when they beat keeper Tom Ingram only for Fleets Centre half Chris Patey to block the effort on the line and clear to safety.

Gordon Reick had been dropped back into the back line along side Patey after Danny Poynter had been ruled out through injury.

Both Fleets full backs Lewis Mingle and Michael Tubbs defended well and also looked dangerous going forward.

Fleets strike force of Brann and Ashley Dann were working hard to pull the Chatham defence around .

The teams went in level at half time and Fleet made some changes with skipper Chris Kinnear and wide man Matt Cornhill coming on for Van -De-Peer and Matt Garner.

Dann was unlucky when he raced onto a through ball holding off a defender his shot on the run beat the keeper but clipped the top of the bar and went over.

The only goal of the game came after a good spell by Gravesend where they played the ball around before finding Cornhill on the right he cut in beating his marker before firing in an unstopable left footed shot from 25 yards out into the far corner of the net.

Brett Lorenzini had an effort well saved by the Chatham keeper as Fleet pushed for a second , also Lee Deadman had a chance cutting in from the left but again the keeper pulled off beating away Deadmans left foot drive.

Chatham had two good chances in the last few minutes but failed to hit the target both times.

Fleet; Ingram, Tubbs, Patey, Reick, Mingle(Barry), Garner(Cornhill), Anderson, Van-De-Peer(Kinnear), Lucas(Deadman), Brann(Lorenzini), Dann.

                              Gravesend & Northfleet 1  Belvedere Sports 2

This had to be Gravesends worst game of the season , going into the match knowing only a win would do after drawing with Tonbridge and losing against Welling .

Fleet never got going and Belvedere were first to many of the loose balls in the opening monents of the game.

It was no suprise when Belvedere took the lead when bad marking in Fleets back line gave a Belvedere striker a free run at the goal and he made no mistake with a cool finish.

This did kick Fleet into life and just before the break Kinnear worked the ball out wide to Karl Lucas who raced into the box but his low drive was well turned away by the keeper.

Again Gravesend started the second half slow and it was Belvedere who were putting Fleets back line under pressure.

With time running out Fleet looked to have leveled only for Dann to see his effort beat the keeper and come back off the post.

Dann was again involved when Fleet did level when he worked the ball across the Belvedere box to find Lucas who fired home across the goal into the far corner of the net.

Marcus Anderson was unlucky when he saw his effort from the edge of the box fly past the post with 8 minuts to go.

Fleet were hit by the sucker punch when Belvedere scored in the final few moments when a long ball forward didnt look that dangerous when Fleets Tom Ingram keeper came running out his area to clear but the ball hit an on running Belvedere striker and the ball went back past Ingram and the striker rolled the ball into the open goal.

Fleet ; Ingram, Tubbs( Mingle), Patey, Poynter( Reick) Barry (Deadman), Garner, Kinnear, Van-de-Peer(Anderson), Lucas, Brann (Cornhill) Dann
