GNFC U16 1 – 1 Dartford

Kent Youth League. 29th January.

It was honours even when the top two teams in the division met at the weekend
Dartford had the better start to the game , putting Fleet under pressure by using the long by assisted by a strong wind.

Fleet were dealt a blow early in the game when they lost striker Ashley Dann to a leg injury, Dann was only  50/50 before the game but with Fleet already missing attacking midfielder Matt Cornhill before the game through the flu, it was hoped Dann would be ok to play a leading roll in the match.

Fleet continued to give away silly free kicks around the edge of their own area and with the wind in their backs Dartford were always going to be dangerous from set play, and it was from one of these free kicks that Dartford took the lead , the free kick was given for a push in the back but it was given out towards the touch line about 30 yards from goal, the kick was lofted into the area and floated in the wind before dropping over Fleets keeper Joe Dawson into the goal.

Fleet like so often this season hit straight back this time they were awarded a free kick , this one however was right on the edge of the box after the Dartford keeper handled the ball outside the penalty area.

Chris Kinnear stepped up and lifted his kick up and over the wall , and the ball curled away from the keeper who was rooted on his line and went in just inside the post , this was a top class effort just when Fleet needed it.

Danny Brann was unlucky not to win Fleet a penalty close to half time when it looked like he was up ended in the area.

Gravesend had the better of the second half and put the Dartford defence under more and more pressure , Marcus Anderson went close when he met Chris Kinnears corner but his header from 6 yards out went straight into the keepers arms.

From another corner on the right Dartford were again put under pressure this time a defender was lucky to see his sliced clearance just miss going into his own net and drop the wrong side of the post and go for another corner.

The Darts were just playing on the break and never really tested Dawson in the second half.

But both teams had to settle for a point each and will now be hoping to pick up maximum points from their remaining games.

Fleet : Daswon, Mingle(Anderson), Patey, Poynter, Deadman, Garner, Reiek, Kinnear, Lucas, Dann(Brann), Lorenzini ( Van-De-Peer).
Subs not used, Ingram, Barry.
