College of Journalism

The Global College Online

BBC White City Building, West London.

Did you know you can read and watch selections of the College of Journalism's learning in over 30 languages?

During 2008, the College of Journalism and the BBC World Service completed an ambitious joint project to translate some of CoJo's core learning into the languages of the BBC WS language services.

The aim was to ensure that BBC and other journalists within those language communities could keep themselves aware of and reflect BBC values and standards in their own languages.

Arabic | French | Hausa | Para Africa (Portuguese for Africa) | Somali | Swahili | Brazil | Spanish | Albanian | Macedonian | Russian | Serbian | Ukrainian | Pashto | Persian | Azeri | Kyrgyz | Uzbek | Bangla | Hindi | Nepali | Sinhala | Tamil | Burmese | Chinese | Indonesian | Vietnamese |

The content deals with questions such as: how to reflect the BBC values - impartiality, accuracy and fairness - in the different languages? How to ensure pronunciation and spelling is clear and accurate? Which accent or dialects are 'acceptable' to most in the audience?

The aim is to capture and develop the in-house style that exists in every World Service language service, to create a reference point for the broadcast language and to register and share each team's knowledge and experience.

CoJo launched three new international websites - Arabic, Persian and Russian - in June 2011.
