Future Media & Technology

Aiming to create the most valued digital media services in the world.

Our aim is to transform the BBC for an interactive, on-demand world. We work tirelessly to find new ways of reaching our audiences wherever they are. And we don’t just deliver the BBC’s services – we also deliver the technology needed to make them all happen.

Getting this right means embracing new formats and working across a number of platforms - Online, Television and Mobile. It also means combining the efforts and ideas of a number of dedicated teams, including Future Media, Broadcast & Enterprise Technology, Research & Development and Information & Archives. Together, we engage and empower audiences in exciting and innovative ways - creating a new kind of digital organisation and a broadband Britain.

The FM&T teams who will be based in Salford are:

  • the TV Platforms Group - including teams working on IPTV
  • those that support BBC Sport, BBC Children’s, Radio 5 live and Learning
  • a significant number of our Research & Development staff
  • part of the Information and Archives team and
  • Broadcast Engineering and Enterprise Technology support teams
  • BBC Homepage, Search and iPlayer editorial operations
