Guidelines for completion of Application Form

The application form is very important. The shortlisting will be based entirely on the information you provide us with in your application and the answers you have given to demonstrate your skills and abilities. As we are expecting a large volume of applications, to present yourself effectively you may find the following advice helpful:

  • Read through the application form thoroughly and give it the time and attention it needs to complete it
  • Read through the application form thoroughly and give it the time and attention it needs to complete it
  • The questions have been specifically designed to allow you to tell us about yourself and to highlight the skills and experience that are relevant to success on this scheme and for a future role with the BBC
  • Keep to the allocated character count

  • Where you are asked to give one example please be specific and give just one example. The best and most recent one you can think of. Where you are asked to provide evidence of a commitment or interest in something you can provide us with as many examples as you want! Examples from outside of college or work can be equally as valuable as those from within

  • Make your answers clear, accurate and concise

  • Do not attach a CV or other material as this will not be referred to

  • Remember – the answers you give on your application form are the only evidence we have of your suitability for this scheme. We will make our decisions on who progresses to the assessments based on this evidence alone so please ensure you haven't missed anything
  • Be sure to have completed your application, online, by midnight Sunday 1st July 2007

You will then have to sit back and wait for a response from us. We will endeavour to let you know the outcome within 3 weeks. We appreciate that this will be an anxious time for you but request that you do not keep on emailing and phoning us as this will not make the process any quicker!

If you are successfully shortlisted you will be invited to an assessment centre. You will be given full details of dates and the type of exercises involved and will be notified of any preparation you can usefully do beforehand. The assessments may be a combination of group exercises, work simulation exercises, practical or psychometric tests and will certainly include an interview.

If you are not invited to assessment please don't be deterred from applying for any future opportunities with BBC Northern Ireland but we regret to advise, that d ue to the large volume of applications expected, we cannot give individual feedback at this stage.

If you attend the assessment day you will be notified within 2 weeks of the outcome. This is usually done by email. Both successful and unsuccessful candidates will be offered feedback on their performance..
