BBC Radio News myChance trainee journalist scheme

Please note that the deadline for applications (31st May 2007) has now passed. We are no longer accepting application for this scheme.

myChance is designed to give two people the chance to be trained "on the job".

We are offering 12-month training contracts* and close mentoring and support.

(*subject to regular reviews of performance)

We are not expecting applicants to have formal training or experience as a journalist.

The people we are keen to hear from will have a good understanding – or direct experience – of the issues facing the communities in the heart of Leicester, Nottingham or Derby.

We are looking for two people who have what it takes to report the news fast, fairly and accurately. They would need to show us that they can spot a story that the radio audience would find interesting.

We would be looking for signs that they have the potential to make great radio that people would want to listen to.

They would need to be able to write well, have good general knowledge and an interest in current events. They would need a voice suitable for broadcast.

They would need to be able – and willing – to spend three months away from home, training with the BBC in London (travel and accommodation expenses will be paid).

So, we're asking for a lot.
