About you

You’re very likely to be working as a reporter or sub in radio, television, online, print or a news agency. You’ll have previous professional experience as a journalist or as a broadcast assistant or researcher (with a substantial involvement in editorial work).

You’ll perhaps have a qualification such as a diploma in broadcast journalism or will have passed the NCTJ’s National Certificate Examination (NCE) or similar.

You’ll know about putting your curiosity and contacts to work to find great stories - and you’ll know how to tell those stories well.

You want to work for one of the world’s greatest news organisations.

You relish the challenge of helping us to serve our diverse audiences better.

It’s possible that you are already working for the BBC as a casual or you’re an ambitious broadcast assistant well used to carrying out journalistic work.

If you decide to apply, be sure to read the values and qualities which we expect our journalists to have. We’ll be weighing you up against them.

You'll need to be able to write quickly, accurately and compellingly under pressure and you’ll have an eye for a striking image or an ear for good audio – our TV & radio programmes and websites thrive on great pictures, strong stories and clear and accurate writing. You’ll need to show that you are across the news.

We must stress that this is not a trainee scheme.  If you want to train as a journalist, then please go to www.bbc.co.uk/jobs/jts and find out about the BBC’s Journalism Trainee Scheme.
