Portfolio advice:

You should aim to include a broad range of work that fully demonstrates your ideas and understanding of design processes. We recommend that you select the best of your work which could include any or all of the following:

  • Sketch ideas (hand or computerised) of concept explorations
  • Stages of design concept development (scamps, mock-ups, storyboards, high level wireframes)
  • Photographic records of process undertaken (collaborations, workshops, concepting)
  • Colour explorations, Typography, Technical and/or Layout examples
  • Flash, Animation and/or Motion Graphics examples (walk throughs, prototypes, 3D, final products)
  • Relevant project or commission briefs (you may have worked on for a client, incl. budgets, timescales, deliverables, objectives)
  • Photograph, printouts, or presentations evidence of the final design realisation or production (website, poster, type specimen, CD/DVD cover, could be presented on computer)
  • Joint work must clearly specify your contribution and responsibility.

Acceptable formats for work

  • PRINTED ( e.g. posters)
  • CD (Mac/PC formatted)
  • DVD (Mac/PC formatted)
  • USB drive/stick
  • URL (website address)

So we can access your files, all electronic submissions must include a clear breakdown of the format/applications you have used, with a description of content. Portfolios submitted on disk/USB must be in a standard, readily available format/application, and your submission must be assembled into one file. We're unable to open large numbers of individual files. Please specify if your file is to be opened with a MAC or a PC.

For DVD submissions we require a list of titles, durations and a brief synopsis of each piece.

3D work must be recorded photographically, digitally, or on DVD.

Selection criteria

The selection panels will be looking for an understanding of the relevant design concept and processes, including:

  • Originality of ideas
  • Problem solving and innovation
  • Understanding of design concept and processes
  • Original use of materials and media
  • Clear visual communication
  • Technical expertise and application skills
  • Professional presentation and finish

Return of portfolios

We regret that we are unable to specify a return date, so please ensure that you have a copy of any work submitted to us and supply a self addressed envelope if you would like your submission to be sent back to you.

We cannot:

  • Take responsibility for any 3D artifacts or set models. Please submit photographs instead
  • Accept applications/portfolios before 15th June or after 26th June
  • Accept portfolios without application forms
  • Accept applications without an uploaded CV

Please note: unfortunately, we are unable to accept responsibility for portfolios which are lost in the post.
