Voices: Turning words into action
Computer session COMPUTER WORKSHOPS

Part of our aim for the continuing BBC Voices Project is to help people for whom English is a second language to improve their English language skills.
Computer session

We are working with Jersey ACET tutors on a Saturday afternoon at St Paul's Community Centre. BBC staff have been volunteering to work as assistants in the English classes, and providing the students with basic computer training, enabling them to use the BBC Radio Jersey website as a tool for improving their English.

These sessions run from 1500 - 1800, the students are of varying degrees of ability and knowledge. The BBC has donated a laptop computer to ACET for use during these sessions. They are using the BBC Skillswise interactive classes during these sessions.

The classes are informative and fun. Voices producer Graeme Drummond says:

"The volunteers from BBC Jersey who have attended the first few sessions have been enthusistic about the project, and have enjoyed meeting the students. They have found the classes interesting and informative. The feedback from both ACET and the students has been very positive".

To find out how to apply to join these courses, you should contact Alex Blake at ACET on 505957. There's an initial assessment for the potential students. ACET will then arrange places for students on future courses.
