The
Beach
by Emma Mary Gascoyne
In
the heat of summers sun
On the beaches having fun
Winter bellies pinking
And bottoms sadly sinking
Grandpa
in his chair
The smell of suncream in the air
Boisterous teenagers annoying
The smell of sweaty flesh so cloying
Little
boys who to love to splash
Full of naughtiness and brash
The Channel swimmer showing off
And little girls who splutter and cough
Mothers
eyes anxious and round
In tight bikinis breast abound
Dad wearing shoes and socks
Children giving ladies shocks
Icecream,
cans of coke
Eyes watering from barbecue smoke
Grandma paddling on the shore
Tomorrow comes with shoulders sore.
