A Mothers Lament
by Emma Mary Gascoyne

Why did they take her, where did she go?
From our of some darkeness, their evil aglow
They stole her in malice, intent to destroy
Heedless of pain, her body their toy

Did they take her with a lust out of control
Did they know what they were doing when her body they stole Sent from some hole into our light Self gratification our lives to blight

Their breath surely stank, from the sewer they came
Evil incarnate, loathsome with shame
Does the sight of our children innocently playing
Fill them with greed their souls decaying?

Why did they take her, was their evil intent
The pain of my suffering to make them content
They stole her and killed her, destroying all hope
The anguish I feel - How will I cope?
