Lost
by Emma Mary Gascoyne
She
lives in darkness, dirt and squalour
There is no knight to prove his valour
Only stark edged fear
Of smoke filled rooms and stale beer
No
canopied bed for her to lie
Or tasty food for her to try
Just lessons learned to duck and dive
And angry voices in endless chide
Yet
we in comfort so deny
And another child in neglect shall die
Such horrors that we can't perceive
Yet our conscience shall grieve and grieve
Our
arms reach out and long to hold
And take her from that harsh and cold
She lived with terror from the first
Evil took her, to quench its thirst
We
stand in line with questions asked
Just whose duty and take to task
Neglect, despair and hopelessness
There is no justice, truth or fairness
