Mesmerised
by Adam Leather
Into
the granite face of tortured rock
The tide relentless beats its savage time,
With rhythm deep beneath each fickle top
That snarls and breaks out from the spuming brine.
A bull whip crack of impact from the surge
Alerts the eye to catch the flecking spray,
Crescendo from the bar of metric dirge,
Pulse and repulse; the ocean and its prey.
In livid liquid light this battle rages,
Froth, flight and fate, under the judging sun,
Immortal it continues through the ages,
And never will I see this skirmish won.
Yet in the splendour of this writhing hour
The sea seduced my pen to show its power.
