With
ooos, aaas and wealth of messages to move away from the flaming
inferno of a bonfire it was a night to remember. The event was organised
to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The
night was kicked off with a selection of fun and energetic Irish
folk style songs brought to us by Run for Cover.

Then
it was time to light the bonfire with a flaming castle on top. The
heat from the fire was overwhelming even at the opposite end of
the arena.
On
comes Sergeant Pippons Lonely Hearts club band with another lively
set of Jersey related folk songs including the thought provoking
Girls of Quennevais and who knew 'Elvis lives in St Ouens'.
Then
it was time for the big one, the fireworks, around 20 minutes of
ooos and aaas to make the sternest of people melt. Colours of plenty
filled the sky, bangs and whooshes filled your ears, not the most
structured of displays and a selection of music to accompany it
would have been nice but it was still a fantastic sight.
The
night was ended by a few hours of top music from local DJ group
Hi-fi Sushi and food/drink a plenty.
An amazing £24,361.59
was raised for Great Ormond Street Hospital on Wednesday night –
far exceeding all expectations.
More than ten
thousand people attended the event which was the first to be organised
by the newly-formed Waterfront Initiatives group, which represents
St Helier’s waterfront community.
