The Chinese zodiac
Chinese zodiac
Each of these twelve Chinese symbols represents a sign of the zodiac.
Many years ago in China, there lived a rat, an ox, a tiger, a rabbit, a dragon, a snake, a horse, a goat, a monkey, a rooster, a dog and a pig.

One day they had an argument about who the new year should be named after. They couldn't agree, so they went to the gods and asked them to decide.

The gods decided to hold a competition: the animals would race to the other side of the river, and the year would be named after the winner.

The rest of the animals would have years named after them depending on where they finished in the race.

The animals gathered at the river bank, and leapt in. The ox quickly took the lead, but the rat jumped onto his back. When the ox was about to reach the shore, the rat jumped off his back and won the race.

The animals finished in the following order:
Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig.

Which animal are you? Find out with our Chinese zodiac chart.
