Spring clean for BBC Jersey schedules

BBC Radio Jersey is refreshing its programme line-up this Spring...

This Spring BBC Radio Jersey will be refreshing its programme line-up.

Breakfast host Roger Bara will be “going it alone” He takes over the popular 'Jersey Today' breakfast news programme from Monday 6 April as its sole presenter.

For Roger it’s a return to a role he first enjoyed more than 15 years ago, he said: "I’ve loved presenting the show with my colleagues these past couple of years, especially Emma Conroy and Sara Palmer, but I’m looking forward to bringing the island even more news and current affairs at breakfast time – which presenting the show alone allows me to do."

Tim Pollard

Tim takes his 'Sunday Classics' to 9am

Emma Conroy won’t be discarding her alarm clock though. She’s to become the new regular presenter of the two weekend breakfast shows.

She’ll be on air Saturday and Sunday between 6 and 9 with a complete run-down of what the island’s getting up to.

Sunday’s programme has been extended by an hour to ensure BBC Jersey has time to include even more news and events from the island’s faith communities.

Emma’s delighted with her new role, she said: "I’m looking forward to spending the summer months getting out and about around Jersey and highlighting what’s happening in such a vibrant island community.

Chris Stone

Chris will take on the phone-in

"The extra hour on a Sunday will also offer me the chance to play more hymns and inspirational songs and to discover what’s going on in Jersey’s churches."

In other changes to the line-up, BBC Jersey’s longest-serving presenter Tim Pollard takes his 'Sunday Classics' to a later time of 0900 and the weekly round-up of the weekend sporting scene moves an hour earlier to 0830 hosted by Sports Producer Daniel Corden.

Veteran sports reporter Richard Collinson is back on the road rooting out the best sports stories and providing coverage of the Siam Cup and the Muratti.

Meanwhile Sara Palmer and Carrie Cooper resume their partnership as the '9am Girls' with a new series of shows from nine until noon six days a week. Their new Saturday programme giving them the chance to check-out the best leisure and lifestyle talking points.

And the daily phone-in gets a new presenter in Chris Stone – who’ll combine that with his weekday 'Hometime' show between 4pm and 6pm.

He’s thrilled to be taking over, saying: “I can’t wait to join the debate and encourage many more people to have their say on the news and issues of the day that affect them”.

BBC Jersey’s Assistant Editor Matthew Price is confident the changes will be welcomed by islanders.

He said: “We take great pride in listening to what our audience wants and we’ve taken the opportunity to offer them more local news and information at the time they need it. Alongside that we’ve given our team of talented presenters some fresh challenges and exciting opportunities."

The new schedule begins on Saturday 4 April.

The Young Farmer's club is once again entering a float in this year's Battle of Flowers. If you would like to come along and make some new friends please come along any evening from 7.00 at Chris Le Marquand's shed in Rue de Herupe St. John. We would also love to see any ex "young farmers" any time but especially next week. Come along and bring your family. Any queries don't hesitate to call me on 07829788543.

Wendy
Could anybody tell me the contact number for the organic farm that is looking for investors and people to work in return for produce, eggs etc. I'm sure that I heard it on Rogers show last Friday, but went onto listen again and couldn't find it.

Good luck with the St.Savoiurs story.See it's changed it's name and one hopes for an improved standard of care.

Please bring Roger back to the phone in... Don't listen anymore as the basis of the programme is now somewhat watered down. POOR!

Mike
Really disappointed that you have dropped local Sportscene from its own Sunday morning slot.Thought it deserved a full hour. Another tradition disappears! Why?

Matt
I think Bridgett should run the phone in. She is the only caller that seems to ever know what she is talking about.

Ben
Poor decision on phone-in but most of us dislike change I suppose. Good luck to Chris but I'll miss Roger for sure.

Sorry to read that Roger will no longer be presenting the "Phone In" he has made the mid day hour one of the most interesting programmes. At least I can still get my Roger fix every morning. I do however wish Chris Stone the best of luck in stepping into the foray and I will continue to listen.

Sue
Changes are good sometimes I agree, but I'm so bitterly disappointed that Roger Bara is no longer doing the phone in, Chris is good but Roger is the tops.
