Walker to demonstrate at Battle

Jersey racing driver James Walker will be demonstrating his 500bhp car at the start of the Battle of Flowers.

Jersey driver James Walker will be demonstrating his 500bhp Formula Renault 3.5 as part of the 2008 Battle of Flowers parade.

He’ll drive the car up and down the arena to signal the start of both the main afternoon and moonlight parades.

“It’s going to be a great atmosphere I think,” said the Jersey-born racer, “it’s going to be a great chance for people to get up close to the team and myself, I can’t wait.”

Walker told BBC Jersey he first had the idea to demonstrate his car in the island around a year ago, but had struggled to find sponsorship to do so.

“It’s very difficult to try and find the financial backing to explain to people what the car is like and how it sounds and how fantastic they are in the flesh.

“To have the chance to show people that and get the public up close to it is going to be fantastic,” he said.

Walker is currently mid-way through his second season competing in the Renault World Series.

The Battle of Flowers will take place on Thursday, 14 August with the moonlight parade the next day.

I think it will be a welcome change to the drab second rate 'celebs' that we have had to put up with over the years. This may not be anything to do with the parade as such, but we are showing off what Jersey has to offer, so go for it James! Regarding the environment, all the motorised floats give off just as much 'polution', and litter the roads which is just as un-eco friendly.Just my opinion anyway...

I'd rather see this guy for 2 minutes than Biggins for 3 hours.

bob
utterly pointless, nothing to do with the parade and bad for the environment, dont do it go and show off elsewhere.
