Biggins for Battle
By Ryan Morrison
Legendary entertainer, Christopher Biggins, has been chosen as this years Mr Battle.
Following on from the success of Kyran Bracken last year - Mr Battle of Flowers is back and this year will be legendary entertainer and King of the Jungle, Christopher Biggins.
He takes over the role which was recreated last year by local rugby player - and surprise ice-skating star - Kyran Bracken.
Mr Biggins will accompany Miss Battle - Holly Fraser - on her triumphal tour round the battle Arena.
Holly told BBC Jersey she loved Battle and couldn't wait to promote the event.
She said: "I love Battle of Flowers and I love meeting people so it will just be great great fun and I'm really excited about it.
"I just really wanted to try and promote battle of flowers to try and make battle cool and community spirit cool. If I can just get more young people involved that would be a great thing for me."
Have your say
What do you think about this years Mr Battle and the role of Mr Battle generally? Should the Battle of Flowers Committee be looking at celebrities or would they be better going for local men - like Miss Battle?
This years Mr St Helier, Ben Wheaton, felt that Mr Battle should either be drawn from Mr Parish competitions in every Parish or at least from local businessmen.
He told us “If you think about it there are twelve females that go through to the main competition. Mr Battle used to be a celebrity.
“If Miss Battle is an island representative of the parishes then we should look at having each parish hold a Mr competition and Mr Battle being a young local person.”
