Two young Jersey cartoonists have been pitting their pen and wit against the islands politicians in a school’s cartoon competition.

The competition was launched by Carey Olsen after an exhibition by Independent Newspaper political cartoonist, Dave Brown, at the Harbour Gallery.

The winner of the competition was Jayne Cullen who submitted a cartoon showing Treasury Minister Terry Le Sueur adapting one of Benjamin Franklin’s famous quotes. Terry now says “in this life nothing is certain but death and GST taxes.”

Second place went to De La Salle A-level student Chi-Hin Wong who drew a cartoon that satirised the club house saga.

This is the event that saw a group of youngsters in St John built their own club house. Chin-Hin Wong’s cartoon is inspired by the Japanese Manga genre.

Jayne and Chi-Hin won £200 and £100 respectively for their entries, which was presented to them by Advocate John Kelleher at Carey Olsen’s offices.
