Wine award for Hamish

BBC Jersey's Hamish Marett-Crosby has been named UK Regional Wine Writer Of The Year.

Hamish Marett-Crosby

Now that's what I call a large glass of wine!

BBC Jersey’s very own Hamish Marett-Crosby has been named the UK Regional Wine Writer Of The Year 2007 at the prestigious Louis Roederer International Wine Writers Awards.

He was awarded the title for his series of wine programmes which were broadcast on BBC Radio Jersey.

Amongst those on the judging panel was the President of the Circle of Wine Writers, Steven Spurrier, and Christine Austin, Wine Editor of Larousse Gastronomique.

He received a rather large bottle of vintage champagne, an even larger trophy and a travel bursary at the awards evening in London.

Greetings (both seasonal and general) Hamish. I very much enjoyed your Camino programme as I've been muttering about doing it for a couple of years. I have a French friend who did about10 days of it last year to celebrate reaching 70 (years). He has offered to repeat, with me, this Spring, the part he did. Only the French part, from LePuy to St Jean interests me...the Spanish bit, not at all, I know two people in jersey who have done it all...Tony Crowsley, a teacher at Beaulieu school, did it, on a bike, from St Malo., and someone whom you might know as he was in more-or-less- the same business...Neil Bradbury (ex JEP) who walked it from Le Puy. Alas I misse the middle section(of your report) because of a tape malfunctiom (it didn't reverse itself) mut I arrived back in thime to hear the last bit. Bythe way...Tony thought that the cleric who 'booked them out' at Santiago was VERY off-hand., he might as well have installed a clocking-off machine. When we met, briefly, in the Opera House cafe about a year ago you didn't recognise me, although you had interviewed Elizabeth and me a few years before (as you do many people), and I directed the choir which sang at your daughter's wedding! Anyway....congratulations and thanks. Being an ex-teacher (of the old school) I greatly appreciate your eloquence (correct English inc.). Have a pleasant Christmas, and a happy anh healthy New Year.
