 | | Veteran joins the Liberation Day parade |
Liberation PartyBy Ryan Morrison As well as the usual Liberation Square Ceremony, this Liberation Day islanders could party like it was 1945 at a public event held in People's Park.

| | This year festival feeling took over Liberation Day. As well as the usual Liberation Service in Liberation Square there was a free event for islanders in People's Park. A huge stage was erected on which Gerard le Feuvre and the King’s Chamber Orchestra of London performed a special gala concert in collaboration with a range of local choirs, bands, instrumentalists and children. Throughout the afternoon people at the park were also treated to a number of musical and theatrical offerings, including a performance from the Jersey Big Band. Unfortunately jazz legends Dame Cleo Lane and Sir John Lankworth were unable to perform at the concert as they did not make it over to the island. Nevertheless, the thousands of islanders who flocked to People's Park in the unexpected sunshine had a great afternoon. From 5th to 9th May, there has been a wide range of events for local residents and visitors to enjoy; including heritage tours, themed walks, special events at the Jersey War Tunnels, open bunkers and classic coach tours. | | | last updated: 10/05/07 | | | Have Your Say | | |

My wife and I come over with a group of friends each year for the Liberation celebrations to help with the parade. We have been doing so now for so long that we consider ourselves more Jerseymen the Brits. I know it has its problems but you should be proud of your history and celebrate Liberation for what it is, a way to bring the island community together. Sadly, my wife an I will never be able to afford the entry requirements to live on you wonderfull island, you should feel priviledged.

Andy, you are an ignorant fool. If you are not someone brought up with the legacy of the Occupation then I could understand. If you are then you are a disgrace. Whilst there are still people alive who endured the occupation (my family includes 3) it should be given importance. Also, you spelt to wrong.
Yoho
liberation day will be rubbish. We are celebratng freedom with restrictions. What a contradiction

Who's paying for this? I see you say it's Jersey Tourism? Well it must be costing at least £60k. I wonder how many tourists will come over for a one day event on a weekday. One minute tourism are saying they are trying to encourage younger tourists and shake off the old image, the next day they are putting a concert on that even Dame Vera Lynn doesn't want to come too! They didn't go to this expense for Lib 60...So that's £240k on a copy of someone else’s logo, and now £60k on a rave for pensioners.
