Youth Assembly Once a year a group of sixth formers get to take up the opportunity of asking Ministers questions without notice. This year the sixth formers will be debating whether people should be sent to prison only in exceptional circumstances. It’s one of a series of topics for the Jersey Youth Assembly which is now in its tenth year. The Youth Assembly is organised by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and sees A Level students meet in the States Chamber to debate issues about their community. Students form the Jersey College for Girls, Beaulieu, De La Salle, Hautlieu and Victoria College will be discussing various topics.
Senator Mike Vibert will be asked about the cost of going to university, and about providing more facilities for young musicians in Jersey. Deputy Guy de Faye will be asked what is being done to reduce traffic pollution in the island. And the Chief Minister, Senator Frank Walker will be asked about States members conduct and about the possibility of the Channel Islands severing their ties with the United Kingdom. But what would you ask? If you had the opportunity to put a question to a Minister in the States of Jersey which Minister would you want to question and what would you ask? |
