| "Tim is a highly committed and determined triathlete" | | Gary Jones, Jersey Commonwealth Games Triathlon Team Manager |
Commonwealth triathlete Tim Rogers has been left with a broken arm after an accident during a training run this weekend. Rogers, who is due to represent Jersey for the first time at the Commonwealth Games next month, continued with his run after an incident with a dog and it was only when he returned home that he realised there was something seriously wrong. Medical examination revealed that the triathlete has a fracture above the wrist and bruising to the elbow; which is expected to take approximately 4 – 6 weeks to heal completely. Rogers suffered from a similar problem back in 2001 when he competed in the World Duathlon Championships, and on this occasion he made a quick recovery and managed to race successfully, so fingers crossed that he can do the same for the Commonwealth Games. Tim Rogers is confident that he should be well in time and able to compete to the best of his ability; “I am disappointed with a set-back at this time, but I’ve done the mileage and have been achieving the speed. With the right physio, and by training on my turbo as well as running I should be able to minimize the impact.” Jersey’s Commonwealth Games Triathlon Team Manager, Gary Jones, is also positive about his athlete’s fitness; “Tim is a highly committed and determined triathlete who has overcome setbacks in the past.” It was more bad news for Jersey’s triathlon team this weekend when Rogers’ fellow team member Scott Pitcher was involved in a cycling accident which left him with cuts that required 18 stitches to close. Pitcher, who is already in Australia training for the Commonwealth Games, is expected to make a full recovery in a week, and should be racing this weekend in Tasmania as part of his training programme. |
