Jeremy Paxman

The Big Debate

Have you got Paxman's persistence and a passion for seeing politicians on the spot? If so, we need to hear from you...

Election 2005

Unless you have been living under a rock instead of on top of one for the last few weeks, or if you have a blind spot for blue posters you will know there is an election coming up.

Now politics might not be quite your bag, or even up your street but we bet you've always secretly wanted to get those politicians in the hot-seat and ask them a few well chosen questions.

If that's the case, then this is your opportunity to do just that; to strike fear into the heart of every senatorial candidate that if they're the one that gets elected, they're going to have YOU to deal with.

So this is what you have to do if you wanna play Paxman (We'll even let you dress up as Anne Robinson if you promise to do it in the privacy of your own home!):

Sharpen a pencil, furrow your brow and poke your tongue out of the corner of your mouth (without dribbling) and squint hard. Now you're in the thinking position, your challenge is to come up with the best, most pointed, truly original, knee-quaking, empire toppling question of all time...

When you've got a question, or two, use the form below to send them to us and we will publish them on the site for public debate.

You can then use our candidate profiles to see which of the 16 match your opinions the closest.

Dear Friends, My campaign in the Senatorial Elections by definition was not a success, but it was a personal success for me. I had accumulated more than one thousand votes mainly from people who did not know me, but understood my message. In the experience l made many friends and learned many good lessons.

I will take a continued interest in politics; therefore l will be launching a web based news sheet called www.jerseygoodnews.com soon. I will be holding talks, in small and large groups. Please log on to my new web site for details. (Please note the BBC is not responsible for the content of external websites.)

Are you guys living in the feudal ages? What's your problems with party politics? Parties are alliances of like minded people who broadly agree on a set of ideas. You know what you're voting for, unlike some of the dubious "independents" (ie pro big business) you've elected in the past. Get in the real world. There are serious issues of poverty and deprivation to be tackled, not to mention the poor treatment of Portuguese immigrants.

I am in exactly the same situation as Maria Etienne, and I am disgusted. The EU brought this legislation in to punish Jersey for its discriminatory housing and employment laws, unfortuenately it is we who are not descended from the UK colonists who have to suffer. looks like I'll have to marry a nice European girl...

Maria Etienne
I was born and brought up in Jersey of Jersey parents and grandparents. For the priviledge of this I have a stamp in my passport, and so do my four children, stating that I do not have the right to reside or work in the EU. Surely this is against human rights and is discriminatory.

Perhaps a compromise in Jersey politics could have a Working member of the House of Lords speak for Jersey matters so that Jersey at least has avoice in the British Parliament. I suggest this as ahalf way house instead of full integration with Britain and the Island having its own MP

Do you feel that the people's views on elections being on one day were even considered
