The OKs

Find out more about the Irish brotherly trio playing original punk rock with influences varying from Bloc Party to Crowded House.

The Oks
Description:The OKs are an original punk/rock band originally from Ireland with influences including Bloc Party and Crowded House. They write lyrics that are sometimes "heart rending, sometimes biting".
Members:Ali o Keeffe (guitar and vocals)
Jaz o Keeffe (drums and vocals)
Paul o Keeffe (bass and vocals)
Address:Jersey
Start Date:Fri 01th, January 1999
Genre:Rock & Alternative music

The OK`s started life in `91 in the form of a heavy metal band playing smelly venues in Cork City. Although originally a covers band, the boys began writing their own songs when Ali joined the band as a result of an almost disastrous cycling accident (long story).

Suzy's Field
Suzy's Field

With the Cork music scene drying up the gang decided to relocate to sunny Jersey. It was in Jersey that they formed a covers band, Suzy`s Field, with the help of Adam  Marshall (now Dennison) and Matt Holcroft.

Gigging around Jersey for 6 years left the band very little time to work on original material and the band really didn’t exist as an original act (apart from releasing a  collection of songs ("mirrors") for about 4 years.

It wasn`t until a fated trip to New Orleans in 2005, that the three brothers realised the potential and appeal of their songs.

On arriving back after the trip the brothers re-emerged as the OK`s, an original three piece, and again began to write songs together.

With Ali`s sometimes heart rending, sometimes biting lyrics and the bands boundless musical energy these three irish brothers are back and very very loud!

The Interview

Describe your style of music

Alternative rock, punk.

What/who are your main musical influences?

Jeff Buckley, Muse, Crowded House, My Chemical Romance, Bloc Party.

Who/what have been your biggest life influences?

Our brother Jonny. And our ever helpful dad Jono.

Who is your favourite band of the moment?

Bloc Party or My chemical romance.

Is there an interesting story behind the name?

It`s just the initials of our last name. Lots of people relise it a month after they have heard us and are like "oh yeah".

Would you prefer to play an arena or a small pub?

Definitely a big arena, although a lot has to be said for deafening people in a small venue.

If you were the first Earth band to play an alien world, what would you play?

We would probably work the theme from Close Encounters into one of our own songs, maybe Talk To Me.

Its a song about a father-son relationship but I’m sure it would translate somehow.
