A variety of Motorbikes, Cars and Carts will be speeding up the winding hill in an attempt to earn vital championship points. However, there is more to the Bouley Bay Hill Climb than just points. In fact, the Bouley bay hill climb is 85 years old and is an important tradition to all motor sport lovers in the island. The competition brings some of the best British hill climb drivers to Jersey. This is the tenth stage of the British Hill Climb Championships which have been taking place all over Britain since early April. The Bouley Bay hill climb has been part of these Championships since its birth in 1947 when there were only six venues. However, hill climbing has become increasingly popular so it is no surprise that there are now seventeen different venues across the British Isles. The current record for the Bouley Bay Hill Climb is 38.65 seconds, which is held by Guernseyman Andy Priaulx. This record has stood since 1995 but last year was almost broken by British Hill Champion, Adam Fleetwood with a time of 38.72 seconds which he is hoping to improve on this year.

The event involves two practice runs for each of the competitors before having the official run. The top twelve drivers make it through to a last run; giving the top ten drivers points, depending on their positions. One of the two commentators for the Bouley Bay hill climb, Martin Keith, told us that this was what made the hill climb so special to him, the fact that you only have one chance to reach the final twelve and the slightest mistake could drop you a place. |
